Anyone else having to choose between education or childcare at school?

DD1's school reopens the week after next to reception and year one children, but all the children will only be going part-time and in small groups in their separate 'bubbles' (so half the kids go Mon and Tues, and the other half go Thurs and Fri). The thing is DD1 has been going to emergency childcare throughout (me and DH both have full time NHS jobs, and we've only been sending her in on the days we both have to work as I work shifts whereas DH has a standard Monday - Friday role). But the school have said because the kids have to stay in their bubbles, they can either be in the 'childcare bubbles' (where they can go to keyworker care any day needed but with no formal teaching) or be in one of the 'education bubbles' (whereby they will only go two days a week but will be learning). So basically we have to choose between DD1 going to school and us having childcare so we can work. My sense is to do what's best for DD1 and give her some learning (since she already has developmental delays so is behind her peers) and we will just have to 'wing it' and tweak our work hours until the end of the school year, but not exactly an easy choice. Is anyone else in the same boat, and if so, what are you doing?

Same here. Also told that Y6 has to be full time or nothing (Private primary). Hours don't fit round mine (secondary teacher) either.

We never used our entitlement to a key worker place and chose to carry on with our childminder instead. Dd was offered some hours back at preschool but we couldn’t make it work without using our childminder so had to decline.

I’m gutted for her because she loved preschool and would have benefited hugely but ultimately we need to work. I’ve also got one eye on the six weeks holiday and don’t want to lose our place so dd will be going back (starting reception) to whatever is waiting in September and I’m sure she won’t be the only one to have missed out.
