Going abroad this Summer?

Is anyone thinking of going abroad this Summer for holidays or are you staying home? My DH is from abroad (East Europe) and we were thinking of going to see his family mid July for a week. Its us two plus one DS. I'm in two minds about it.

Yes, I would. But short haul. I would rather stay at home then go to some over priced Cornish (for example) hotel and sitting around in my coat. Say you went this week. Its been completely miserable.

My son lives in Switzerland and is getting married in France in September. If we can get there we'll be going

Yes, the moment Cyprus allows flights in from the UK - desperately missing daughter, son in law and our grandchildren.

No I've written it off, and got close friends and family abroad too and we go every year for 2-5 weeks usually depending on other places.

I think it's looking more likely than it did a few weeks ago that travel abroad will be possible but we've cancelled our holiday for this year. It wouldn't be the same if we didn't have free access to the things we normally like to do and I also have concerns about insurance cover.

Hoping we'll be able to get away in our caravan in this country at least, for a change of scene.

My mom lives in Spain. My flights for August have already been cancelled. I received the email yesterday.

I have a holiday to France booked in August. We're driving and doing self catering so again its a bit different then a package holiday staying in a hotel and travelling by plane. We're booked on the train so no crowded ferries to think of either. A few weeks ago I didn't think it would happen, but now I'm feeling more positive. Obviously things may change, but at the moment we think we'll be able to go

I can't believe people are even considering a foreign holiday this year. Just not a priority at all for me with everything going on. I think visits to family (within reason) are different though.

Everyone's circumstances are different. For some people, the risk is minimal. It's possible to travel abroad and bar being on the plane, keep your distance from people if you like walking or swimming or other simple pleasures. And lots of people want to live. The virus is just one risk among many.

We have abandoned this years plans, too many unknowns and the risk of a country suddenly locking down again with just a few cases as happened in much of Europe does not make for a relaxing trip.

We had planned a big road trip around Kenya this year with the kids - wanted to show them where we worked for a time d where their grandparents lived. But have decided to postpone it. We might go to Scotland if we're able, but otherwise will stay at home in Cornwall.

We are going abroad still as DH and I have lost a parent each and we really need the break. We will be meeting friends abroad and feel the benefits outweigh the risks (for us). The place where we stay has confirmed it will be opening in July and has told us the social distancing rules for the site which are strict but we are happy.

If my plane goes and spain let us in i will be going on July 8th. This is a new booking so has more chance of going ahead than a long term booking but that is of course if spain let us in. At the moment they say they will open to us on 1st July but that might change. Like you though we are going to a place where one of us is from and hope to stay all summer so it’s different to say going to a new place and staying in a hotel or similar.

We have two holidays booked one for July and one for August. BA have already cancelled the one for July even though it is mid July, and the country we are travelling to is welcoming tourists already.

At the moment I can not find any travel insurance whatsoever that will completely cover us, I would not travel without this having experienced state funded healthcare in Greece and Spain separately.

I have reservations about how safe it is to fly with recycled air and with so many other people, even if you can get through security and check in and the airport environment safely (which I highly doubt) as you have to touch so many things.

I don't know how fun it will be, it is going to be very odd walking around in masks, gloves, sharing pools and eating in restaurants that will all have restrictions. It is not my idea of a relaxing holiday at all.

I am terrified one of us will be ill whilst there, perhaps seriously, and can I manage overseas by myself or could dh with two dc with us in that scenario.

Can I take 14 days off after travelling to quarantine at home? No in a word, and nor would I want to after a long lockdown already. The thought of it fills me with dread. No holiday could be worth another two weeks stuck at home.

When I consider all of the problems of travelling this year, then for me, no place is worth all of the stress. I would rather go when it was safe and enjoyable.
We have booked Cornwall as well, and I think that is the option we are most likely to choose. Our health and wellbeing comes first, and is certainly more important to me than a beach holiday!
