The PHE weekly mortality report on June 11th shows NO excess deaths for week 24. This is the first week that has shown this since the begining of April. Obviously all deaths are a tragedy but on a wider population level this is fantastic news.

Well I’m with you and think it’s amazing news 😁

I'm glad to read this, thanks for sharing! With the economic turmoil, I'm grabbing on to all the positive news I can.

I was also glad to see that the Kings app reported that daily cases are down 47% since last week.

Yes good news. Too positive for the Covid board.

You will get someone on here saying wait a few weeks for the figures from the protests.

AnyFucker · 12/06/2020 12:05

👍

NothingIsWrong · 12/06/2020 12:07

More positives - the ONS random community testing is showing that 0.06% community infection, which is 1 in 1700 approx. Down from 0.1% last week and 0.24% the week before

PatriciaHolm · 12/06/2020 12:08

It is very good news, yes. It's actually showing no excess deaths for week 23, which is week Jun 1-8 I think, although the number it quotes and shows on the graph is for week 22! Covers England, Wales and NI; Scotland numbers seem a couple of weeks delayed (they are quoting for week 21) but given how low their numbers have been this week I suspect it may be the same situation there.

Either way, no excess deaths at any age in June so far.

I'm trying to find it now, but I'm pretty sure I saw a graph the other day that showed that excess deaths in hospital are quite below what we would expect right now whilst deaths at home were above. Which if true, is concerning from the POV that it suggests people who should be in hospital (unrelated to COVID) are still not going.

I’m here to lap up your positivity, we need every bit. Thank you for sharing

Timeforabiscuit · 12/06/2020 12:10

Fantastic news!!! Thanks for sharing,

I lwas worried that we would be left with a low level but endemic infection rate which would make the traditional flu season an absolute horror.

GabriellaMontez · 12/06/2020 12:14

Omg! Hadn't heard this, that's brilliant.

ChateauMargaux · 12/06/2020 12:20

This is great news!!

Jrobhatch29 · 12/06/2020 12:21

You arent allowed to be positive on mumsnet. Someone will pop up in a minute and tell you yeah but second wave/500,000 are going to die

Jrobhatch29 · 12/06/2020 12:21

But yea excellent news! Smile

HairyFloppins · 12/06/2020 12:24

First person after me to mention second wave wins a prize.

Weepinggreenwillow · 12/06/2020 12:26

It is interesting isn't it that this hasn't been reported.
patricia I have read that about hospital deaths across non COVID areas being lower than expected. The explanation that was given though was that people who may have died this month from, for example their heart failure, actually died last month(or at some point in the pandemic) due to COVID, so basically the excess deaths in preceding months included a lot of those with vulenerabilities that would have resulted in their deaths in the coming months anyway, and so they are hypothesising that this pattern of lower than expected non COVID deaths may continue for some months, which may ultimately mean that the overall death rate for the year ends up being not so much in excess of normal as we would anticipate.
Deaths in care homes we know are increased and count as deaths at home so that would account for that.

I think my local hospital has had 1 death in about a fortnight and, a couple of days ago, 10 covid patients so things are looking up. There was a BLM protest in the town, btw, but it was static and socially distanced. It's on the edge of a touristy area but not enough to get an influx of visitors and not on the coast.

hairyLOL or Spanish Flu..... 3, 2, 1....go 🤣
