If the R-rate increaes

So if the R-rate increases to past 1 will the whole country shutdown again? Our school (Y6) have made us contractually agree that if any of our family are showing symptoms that we self isolate and get tested and we won't be allowed to send Y6 back to school until test results show negative, which is fair enough, but I can see how this is going to potentially be chaos throughout the whole of next school year. DH back at work but how many times could he self isolate until his employer says "enough"?

No, of course not. The country can't afford to shut down again. We're lucky we could shut down for this long.

No the country cannot afford lockdown again they need to get people off furlough and workings. Although many, many people are going to lose their jobs.

It will be interesting if the virus is set off again by the rioting in London, no cure for stupidity

Bluntness100 · 10/06/2020 07:58

No they will do it geographically first. It’s also unlikely as the community spread rate is very low, it’s hospitals and care homes where the spread is higher pushing it close to one.

Clearly if the whole country got above one and the nhs was risking being breached they would lock down the whole country but that’s highly unlikely looking at the results of lock down easing in other countries.

Yes it will be interesting to see in a couple of weeks if hospital admissions increase in London, but I’d assume those protesting were not predominantly in the risk brackets Ie over 70 or with health conditions. So even if they catch it, it would be highly unlikely to be anything other than mild to no symptoms. Anyone they know who is vulnerable needs to clearly take precautions round them for two weeks.

We can't afford this lunacy twice. Hopefully we might have systems in place by then (slightly given up on this). Test results are v quick now so self isolation might not be more than 24hrs. The main problem is carehomes and hospitals. They all need weekly tests imo.

It'll take a while I think, as you say. They catch it, go home, spread it, finally a vulnerable older person catches it, two weeks later ... or maybe 4 weeks later for the statistically unlucky younger person

Of all the events likely to spread it, I'd have thought this was pretty high on the list? The only plus is that it is outdoors and currently most infections are in carehomes/hospitals.

finally a vulnerable older person catches it

Hopefully those who are vulnerable and older understand enough now to social distance.

Fingers crossed

Hope they are staying alert

So a no for a national lockdown but say a child in your child's class tests positive I am assuming there will be rest of class and family isolation and testing before a return to school? As presume the teaching staff will isolate as well. Which on a personal level is just as chaotic for your personal family life.

Just to point out I am not complaining and will just have to get on with it.
