Masks/face coverings

When these become compulsory on public transport, in places where social distancing isn't possible and in clinical health settings, what will everyone be wearing?

I resent having to wear a mask, when all the people I do see wearing one are doing so incorrectly.

Over the mouth, but under the nose is a popular style, as is the chin strap.

Does it have to be a surgicsl mask?
Can I wear my morph mask?

I think we are going to see some very inventive masks on people boarding public transport next week.

DippyAvocado · 08/06/2020 00:42

DH has one of these from when he was sanding our floors. It looks like a gas mask.

A good cottage industry has sprung up making some quite nice masks. My DC wanted me to buy a leopard print one but I thought that would be a bit much for Tesco so I just went for a blue one.

The only specification for public transport is that the mask or face covering must cover the mouth and nose.

Surgical masks (like the ones I use at work) for hospital and clinical settings I understand, but unless there's further specificity, bandanas and scarves could be used on the bus.

Yes, face Coverings are fine. I use a motorcyclist's neck warmer - sits snug and cosy and you can stick a piece of kitchen roll in for extra protection.

I've got one of those too.

It's going to be extremely warm this summer

Currently googling 'DIY PLAGUE DOCTOR MASK' Grin

We have to wear them here and most people wear the surgical ones as they are lighter and you don't feel as hot and bothered- coming up to 30 degrees in the day now.
We had some cloth ones in March, but I can't imagine wearing them now it's hot.

MyDogPatch · 08/06/2020 20:45

Dreading this. I work in public transport and everyone is wondering how it will be enforced. If any of you come to my station I will advise you of the regulations but have no power to stop you from travelling. Only a police officer can.

I wear a bandana, cowboy-style.

Good luck out there. Smile

Everyone is wearing Liberty print ones around here... Grin (Home Counties)

I'm looking forward to seeing how many people comply at my station

Gingernaut · 13/06/2020 18:18

I bought a facemask from Etsy and wore it out to go round Homebase.

I counted three people with masks only covering their mouths and two wearing the things as chin straps.

Fucks me right off.

What is the point of going to the trouble of buying a mask, putting it on and then fuck it up when wearing it in public?

I can't wait! My new mask has arrived!

Looking forward to Monday!

The blue surgical ones are definitely less hot. With the cloth one I do keep
Pulling it down so I can breathe more (not on the bus, but in shops where the mask is still optional).

I did a big sneeze yesterday and had the mask on so I suppose if i had CV but I was asymptomatic it would have limited the spread of it?

peridito · 19/06/2020 14:02

I wish I could give a thumbs up for cloth face masks but sadly I've found the surgical ones more comfortable and lightweight .

And they are what you see habitual users wearing in other countries .

Mintjulia · 19/06/2020 14:14

No, it doesn’t have to be a surgical mask.

I’ve made twenty for us. Masks for ds that fit, for when he can go back to school on school bus (hopefully)

The recommendation is two layers of close weave cotton, linen or poly-cotton material, to cover mouth & nose.

I’ve made plain white & plain blue for ds and assorted check, plain and patterned for me.
