Anyone think their child has had covid-19

Hi all

In February this year my son was poorly. Like really poorly. For about ten days he just wanted to sleep, had a temperature, rash etc and when he went back to Pre school (10 days later) I went to pick him up due to high temp. Anyone else think their child may have had it before the lockdown? I know there's no point in what ifs but just wondered if it was actually around before everyone originally thought??

Yes me but everyone I know thinks I'm mad.

Dd ended up in hospital and eventually was thought to have tonsillitis and scarlet fever. That lasted about ten days and then it came back again. She also had sore eyes and a constant fever.

Once we got to the end of about four weeks she was vomiting and then slowly got back to normal but took about ten weeks to shift the cough.

I don't know what the hell went on but it was horrid.

poozel · 07/06/2020 21:24

Sorry was not in hospital ten days, first bout lasted about that, eased, then came back again.

Whattodowhattodooo · 07/06/2020 21:27

I think my DD1 had it the week before schools shut. Raging temp, terrible cough, very dopey, wouldn't eat because "nothing tasted nice". DD2 then had a cough and temp. DH and I had sore throats. Could havd just been seasonal though 🤷‍♀️

Whattodowhattodooo · 07/06/2020 21:28

Ohhh should add DD2 also had conjunctivitis!

AtLastEarwax · 07/06/2020 21:29

Bless her, poor thing sounded so poorly 😢

I'm not a mum that gives calpol out willy nilly. Some people I know give it every night/morning but I'm a bit more ruthless 😂😂😂 this time though ds was on it back to back every 4 hours and at night with ibuprofen and olbas oil (people say what you like about it but we love it in our house) warm bath every night etc as well.

I don't think your mad, I honestly believe it was around way before people think...

Yes my son had proper green not and mucus coming out of his eyes. His eyes were stuck together like conjunctivitis but just where you would get sleep. Another way of his body getting rid of the virus. Sorry for tmi

Yes in March. Had low fever, headache and sore eyes plus chest pains, shortness of breath and was tired. We all were ill and his babysitter too. 14 days later he ran a fever again.

BillyAndTheSillies · 07/06/2020 21:54

Yes, DS2 was 6 months at the time. His breathing was so rattly the doctor prescribed him an inhaler as he could hear him breathing in the background during the phone consultation. I was under strict instruction to go straight to hospital if he deteriorated over night.

He had a bad cough, was very moany but only had a temperature for a day.

This was about a week after I came down with suspected covid. DH and DS1 absolutely fine.

DippyAvocado · 07/06/2020 21:56

DC1 was very unwell with a fever and cough that wouldn't clear up. She was breathless for weeks and couldn't join in PE lessons at school for about 4 weeks after she went back. This was in January though so I think it was too early for Covid and maybe there was another nasty respiratory virus going round earlier in the year. None of the rest of us seemed to catch it either.

mama202 · 07/06/2020 22:02

Yes I think my DD had it. She had a terrible hacking cough for around 6 weeks and was sick several times. She was actually prescribed an inhaler and I've read that the number of children prescribed inhalers has been particularly high so I wonder if there is a connection there. She then developed a rash, conjunctivitis and an ear infection. It was all on and off for several weeks but then she got rushed to the doctors with a really high temperature and being very floppy but they prescribed penicillin and she got better straight away. I also have a newborn who has been diagnosed with a rare vascular birth defect and now I'm reading that the virus is vascular so I am wondering if there is any connection there too. It will be a long time before anything like that is able to be confirmed though I guess

Dd 4yo had something after half term week 3 day fever mild then weird snot that irritated her face then at day 8 or 9 a cough.
The cough lasted maybe 8w.
We got ill mid apr sore throat and then cough the next day i had SOB (interestingly i did have a mild few off days about 2w earlier..)
Dp and me together then both dc i think i mean dd2 still maybe had the original cough.
But yeah i would call it 'wuhan cough/pneumonia' in the sense it was an awful cough tickly. And there was no cold symptoms in fact I normally have allergies and for months no snot at all.
But it was very early that dd got it only 1 week into term and we hadnt been anywhere though as 1 say about 5 days so might fit exactly with incubation period.
It would be annoying if we did catch it frim preschool as there were signs on the door not to take kids in if you had been to china or certain parts of italy... Though there is one italian mum i think who always parks in the turnimg circle so maybe she ignored advice.??
But also it would be gov fault too with bad advice and lack of testing as i did suspect it but at the time it was 'we are all going to get it' 'only testing italy returners etc' and i think too you had to have both cough and fever which dd didnt to start with.
So we either caught it from dd or a supermarket delivery (we got ill about 5 days later).

Keepdistance · 07/06/2020 22:11

I think dd probably needed an inhaler.
Im worried about what she will be like with a next cold.
I really wanted to avoid catching covid as i have asthma and both dc cough with colds a lot normally. I was hoping they would avoid getting asthma.
We used olbas oil (like a whole bottle over those weeks)

Laaf80 · 07/06/2020 22:11

Back in late Jan/Feb my 10month old and I both had hacking coughs for about 6 weeks.

Was strange because we had no other symptoms, no temp no runny nose etc.

I’ve barely taken him GP in his life but took him GP twice For this as I was worried that it wasn’t shifting.

GP diagnosed a virus and gave an inhaler just in case.

fia101 · 07/06/2020 22:19

My two year old had a fever and rash and her abdomen was going in and out sucking for air she really struggled to breath.

Took her out a&e in early March they took their masks off to examine her and they didn't even consider Covid

They confirmed a "virus"

LakeFlyPie · 07/06/2020 22:23

I had Covid over Easter (NHS worker swab confirmation) and think both DC (9+11) got it. DS1 had altered taste and couple of days of fatigue and DS2 has a few days of temps, cough and fatigue. I can only presume that they've had it as timing would fit with when I would have been contagious. We had all had flu like illness (which probably was flu) at the beginning of March which we could have presumed was Covid but in retrospect clearly wasn't. There were lots of non Covid respiratory viruses circulating during winter (as usual) so without Covid antibody testing I think it'll be very difficult to know whether people have actually had it if they weren't confirmed with a test

My friend is an A&E nurse. At our children's class assembly in February, she told me they had been swamped with children with breathing problems that week .
My friend also told us she had a terrible virus - cough, temp, dragged herself to bed etc in January.
I keep wondering if these were in fact covid19.

OublietteBravo · 07/06/2020 22:40

Yes. I think DD (15) had it immediately after February half term. Awful headache, high fever, persistent dry cough (for weeks afterwards), loss of taste/smell.

Winnipegdreamer · 07/06/2020 22:44

Mine had it in late Feb, cough, low fever for a day, and fine rash over body but mostly face. Whatever it was it didn’t fit into any other virus bracket. Who knows!

Flippinfurloughed · 07/06/2020 22:50

I think in retrospect Ds had it early March. He had a massive fever that I couldn’t get down with alternating calpol / ibruprofen, sore throat and was very chesty. I’ve never seen anything knock him out quite like this or for so long - he was hallucinating with the fever and said he couldn’t taste anything (he was off his food anyway) I rang 111 because I was so worried and then followed it up with a doctors the week after as he was still so exhausted. They said it was a bad virus - which it could have been, but now I wonder.

middleager · 07/06/2020 22:54

DS, 14, came back from skiing in Italy at half term.

He's hardly ever ill, but spent three days with a raging fever. I was ill 3 weeks after that, despite self isolating, but who knows?

OneJump · 07/06/2020 23:14

DC had a horrendous cough that appeared overnight with a high temp in Jan and Feb. They had so much time off school because it would go and come back in the same week. He was so poorly. It also went through the class like wildfire. None of us got it though, although my friend was really ill with it. Who knows! We are in London.

Satsunday · 07/06/2020 23:17

That's interesting flipping. At the beginning of March one of my DDs started coughing in her sleep. Just few times but noticeable. Next day no cough and she was fine. By the evening she had a very high temp that I couldn't get down with calpol for about a week. She was also hallucinating. The thing that makes me wonder is she couldn't taste her food for two days. Also a week before I had begun a weird clearing my throat thing and had a temp for a day. If it was that, I'm very thankful that the two higher risk members of my family didn't catch it (or even better, were asymptomatic). But who knows, it seems to fit the picture but I guess it could have been something else.
