What is the temperature cut off?!

I’m taking my daughter for her vaccinations next week. A friend said the surgery are taking temperatures before you’re allowed to enter.

I’m wondering what the temperature would be before they wouldn’t allow entry?

My body temperature can be anywhere between 36.3 and 37.2

So if I go and it’s at the higher end would I not be allowed in?

My husbands is working so wouldn’t be able to take her!!!

I think it does vary somewhat from person to person, and there is variation throughout the day depending on various factors too.

I think normal range is considered to be 36.5°c -37.5°c, give or take. So you would hopefully be OK.

We don’t let people in over 37.6.
PHE guidance is to treat as covid-19 once a patient has a temp of 37.8 & above so our cut off is slightly below. Other surgeries may be different but we have patients in up to 37.6 and have only refused 2 patients entry so far, they came in two weeks later when they measured okay.

“Symptoms of coronavirus
The most common symptoms are new:
continuous cough
fever/high temperature (37.8C or greater)
loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste (anosmia)”

Thank you. I’ve tried looking on the GP website but there’s no advice.

I’ve looked online and there does seem to be a range for “normal” body temperature so I wasn’t entirely sure what the Drs as classing as their cut offs.

In my service we r not seeing clients with temps over 37 officially. Would probably be ok up to 37.5 though. We've turned away a few 37.8 and 38's recently.

Oh really? I hope they don’t turn me away.

I’ve checked the NHS website and it says normal temperature is up to 37.5 and Covid temperature is 37.8 or above.

It just doesn’t specify if there’s a cut off for entry into a GP surgery.

Just don’t want them to turn me away if my temperature is on the higher side of my normal.

What happens if people have a temp from something else that really needs a doctor?! Just genuinely curious.. such as a chest infection or any infection to be honest! Are docs just handing out antibiotics to everyone reporting possible infections like that? My doctors are usually extremely cautious with antibiotics so I wonder are they not giving them when actually they could really be needed?!

LadyFeliciaMontague · 07/06/2020 20:06

Bol in the case of chest issue they go out and, with everyone wearing PPE, they listen to the patients chest in the carpark or in their car and check their oxygen levels. They then phone the patient and discuss what the plan is -ref for X-Ray or antibiotics or whatever. They don’t discuss there and then to limit contact and the patient talking near them even when wearing a mask. We have had one patient sent to hospital with suspected Covid but yes, antibiotics are being handed out like smarties at the moment because they are too nervous of a patient not getting treated and developing a major problem. It is lessening slightly as more people are now being asked to attend in person. In the first few weeks everyone was getting antibiotics.

spicelader · 07/06/2020 20:17

Not what you want to hear but I was turned away taking dc for vaccinations because my temp was over 37. I wasn’t unwell. My DH was in the car and was allowed in.

Eeyoresstickhouse · 07/06/2020 20:24

I had ear ache for 4 days that wasn't getting any better. I did an online consultation and 4 hours later a prescription for oral antibiotics and antibiotic ear spray was waiting at the pharmacy. No telephone or video consultation. So yes they are just handing them out it would seem! The ear ache has finally gone mostly so obviously was an infection!

Lou0808 · 07/06/2020 21:40

@spicelader how much over 37 was your temp?

OP posts:
Lou0808 · 07/06/2020 21:41

@spicelader why did they let DH in and not you? I thought the rule was if you have a temp then your house has to isolate, so surely if they refused you they should refuse DH?

They didn’t tell me what it was exactly. I didn’t feel I had a temperature, I wasn’t unwell and didn’t become unwell subsequently. I did question the fact that we’d come from the same household but she was happy that it was unlikely we had the virus as both at home and only going out for food shopping. Tbh she obviously thought I was fine but 37 was their cutoff.

Lou0808 · 07/06/2020 21:54

I will have to see what they say.
DH is back at work now so he can’t take her and I don’t want her to miss having them.
