Covid

WWYD - school tomorrow

My son is due to go back to school tomorrow but I've been ill since Thursday with corona type symptoms (fever, sore throat, headache, feeling totally wiped out etc). I took a test on Friday which came back as negative (got the result about midnight friday).

I took a turn for the worse Friday night and my temp shot up to 40.6 so 111 advised ring 999 and go to a&e. I was taken to the covid ward and monitored there for about 5 hours. They took blood and urine and put me on a fluid drip. My temp came down to 36 and they found no sign of bacterial infection so told me it was definitely viral and they were surprised by the negative result. They didn't test me again though as they didn't need to admit me, so I was just sent home and told to ring 111 if it got worse.

So, my question is, would you self isolate with husband and son for 2 weeks just to be safe? I think yes although it pains me to say it as we've been desperate to get him back to school. My husband isn't convinced but to be honest he hasn't taken the whole thing very seriously (while I was laying in bed shivering with a fever on Friday night he drank a whole bottle of wine so couldn't drive me to the hospital or to get antibiotics or whatever)

I can't see anyway round it. Although you've got a negative result you've been on a ward surrounded by people with Covid. You may not have been in physical contact but would you really want to risk taking it into your workplace and passing it on?
I think you need to do the full self isolation.

In the last few hours I've checked my throat again and I've got white spots that weren't there when I went to hospital. I've spoken to 111 and been given an over the phone diagnosis of tonsillitis. This explains a lot and I'm massively relieved.

I sympathise OP. Tonsillitis can make you feel so poorly. I'd still keep your LO at home to spare other people the worry you've had this weekend.

Hope you feel better soon.

One of my colleagues had a negative test, three weeks later she was saying she was finding it hard to breathe while lying down and her breathing was rattly. Too much of a coincidence. It's not worth the risk, so please isolate. Even if it's not covid, there's a chance your son may catch it off you.
