Will be so annoyed if we go into a local lockdown because of these idiots!

I live in the SW of the country and we have had very low infection and death rates. How we have managed to come out of it so well I don't know but luckily we have.

However, the R rate is now over 1 again and there is talk about local lockdowns rather than a national one. It seems we would be at the front of the line for this.

I am so annoyed about this, we were doing so well and I can't feeling that as soon as the restrictions were lifted slightly, along with the hot weather, idiots travelled for miles, and I am sure some locals, immediately came to the beaches in their 000s making the virus spread. Weston super mare in particularly as a spike which in mind mind is obviously because it's a seaside town. It's incredibly selfish and now we might have to have another lockdown because they want a day at the bloody beach. Think it's even more annoying as we have done so well beforehand.

It seems increasingly likely most areas will get local shutdowns from time to time. We have local areas that are nice to visit and whilst many are on furlough, working from home, with kids off school, it is just as likely that most (not all) people out on any one day will be from the local-ish area.

I was depressed about all this about 4 weeks back, I was a different person, but I am back, for the time being, just taking it one day at a time. What else can us mere mortals do?

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 07/06/2020 11:59

i was on the beach a few times last week, some people behind us commented how they had to get a move on back to big city 60 miles away!

goldfinchfan · 07/06/2020 12:31

LuLworth Cove was not a manipulated photo.

Locals with young kids, or who are vulnerable are now too scared to go to our locals beaches. Because it is impossible to socially distance... and visitors from further away give them selves away.

The amount of litter left behind was shocking.
So was using anywhere as toilet.

FliesandPies · 07/06/2020 12:35

goldfinchfan - Lulworth Cove draws huge amounts of tourists every year. How is the issue of litter and toilets usually dealt with?

It's extraordinary to me that strict travel restrictions aren't in place for areas of England such as the South West and my home county, Cumbria. We never closed footpaths as Wales did.

Basic, sensible actions to take during a pandemic to prevent spread of the virus.

I feel sorry for all the locals at these beauty spots having to put themselves at risk by clearing up visitor's rubbish and human waste after they leave.

It's bad enough needing to pick up discarded disposable gloves, cigarette butts and other food rubbish from the pavement outside my front garden on my city street. Nothing unusual in that (apart from the gloves) but obviously feels riskier at the moment.

The Lake District is on our doorstep as is the Cumbrian coast but we won't travel there until basic amenities such as public toilets are open for the children. Even then not for a while. Carlisle remains a hot spot, we've had a problem here all along.

I grew up in the countryside, sadly lack of respect for the local area and residents doesn't surprise me. What does slightly is the attitude of 'there's no risk, we barely saw a soul on our walk' while I'm thinking you do realise how many locals and visitors came down that path, over those stiles, through those gates, sat on that wall or large boulder before and after you that same day.

I can't see how we'll avoid a horrific second wave (continuation of our first peak in Cumbria?) now.

I don't think the guidelines were sit on a crowded beach where there is no room for social distancing in groups louder than you are allowed.

They would be infecting the locals, in shops, waiting in the line for an ice cream, with locals whilst walking around town, at the petrol station, at the supermarket.

Doesn't look like they have though does it.

ifonly4 · 08/06/2020 15:08

If we need local lockdowns I'm hoping it'll end up being by county perhaps with a mile or so into the next county.

We're right in the north of the south west, we haven't had any new cases in our borough this last week, so it'd be so annoying if we have to lockdown. There have been three cases in Gloucestershire but not near us.

puffinkoala · 08/06/2020 17:46

How would they infect the locals doing any of those things?

You are also assuming they all have the virus which is vanishingly unlikely as we've been in lockdown since March.

And if people are not social distancing, why are you assuming they are not locals? As a pp said, it is more likely you'll meet local friends on the beach/

puffinkoala · 08/06/2020 17:49

??? So on the assumption that I have the virus, if I sit on a rock (fully clothed), and you come along and sit on that rock hours later, you will catch the virus from me? Ok.

The advice is as it has always been, don't touch things, if you do, don't touch your face and wash your hands thoroughly.

I think some people really need to read some sensible FACTS about this virus and calm themselves down. A lot.

1981m · 10/06/2020 11:26

Me too Ifonly. Our county also hasn't had a rise.

Because some people haven't followed clearly otherwise we would have had no more cases during lockdown.

Because people get the virus from touching things, passing change to the ice cream seller/shop keeper. People don't always keep 2 metres away, someone sneezes etc. No I am not assuming everyone has it but it only takes one person to have it and they spread it to another person and so on. You are assuming everyone has been law abiding throughout lockdown and is following all the rules when out, that is a big assumption to make.
