Does anyone know of any positive COVID-19 cases in schools yet?

I think at the last count Lancashire had 8 or 9 and that’s with only key worker / vulnerable children being in.

I have seen more on social media , one school closed as 7 members of staff tested positive.
Another two children tested positive.

Drivingdownthe101 · 06/06/2020 18:45

Yes there have been some. The ones I know of were when they were just open to keyworker children. One where two siblings tested positive. As far as I’m aware no one else at the school contracted it from them in that case.

I believe 7 staff members at a school recently tested positive in Derby.

Thanks. With more schools reopening I was wondering if they had been a surge in positive cases. Seems not though yet.

It will be too early I would have thought to notice too much of a difference

With an average 5 day incubation and a further 7 days till the turn for the worse, the effect won't be seen until next w/e or the week after. Too early to see.

A quick Google shows since lockdown, so since teachers have been working in hubs or key worker/vulnerable support in their own schools. Some mention children they have been in contact with testing positive as well.

The only one i have heard of is at a school in Gloucestershire. Mine is due back on the 15th and i'm watching things closely.

Two members of staff (both TAs) tested positive at my sons school about two weeks ago, they had worked the same bubble of keyworker children but at different times. One walks to work and lives alone (usually my sons classroom TA), so it is likely she contracted it from one of the children in her bubble. They are both fine now and back at work.

Piggywaspushed · 06/06/2020 20:03

There were 15 'outbreaks' in schools last week , which is more than there were in hospitals.... PHE figures.

LilyPond2 · 06/06/2020 20:12

Not a case in a school, but I understand that a primary school local to me decided not to open on 1 June after being informed of two confirmed cases of Covid-19 (two different households) among its pupils.

Witchend · 06/06/2020 20:29

Yes.
I know of one teacher who (along with their bubble) was sent home on Friday and (different school) a year 6 whose bubble was sent home on either Wednesday or Thursday.

In the year 6 case the child had actually tested positive, in the teacher case it was a parent who had tested positive, but the child was coughing.

Adirondack · 06/06/2020 21:18

I just came on here to ask the same question. I know of one local primary that closed for a deep clean after a teacher tested positive.

lockedown · 06/06/2020 21:27

None of the local state primary schools are open yet where we live. Our daughter's school is opening on Monday only for year 6. I think a lot of primaries are doing late opening and phased openings.

Char2015 · 07/06/2020 09:10

One positive case in South London I am not sure if that related to a child or staff member. School did not give much information. School closed for 1 week. This was the first week schools were closed. They opened on the Monday for the keyworker children. That same Monday in the evening they contacted to say school will close for 1 week for a deep clean.

Kitcat122 · 07/06/2020 09:14

It will be interesting to see how it goes. My school has had 16 children with keyworkers children. We are now open to over 100!!!

loutypips · 07/06/2020 09:22

Dd school had to send someone home with symptoms this week- apparently they tested negative and will be allowed back. None of the bubble were sent home.
Now, in hospitals staff have to have two negative tests a few days apart, so is it possible that this child may test positive a few days later? They will be allowed back, but potentially could still have it, and spread it around the school.

Keepdistance · 07/06/2020 09:58

Possibly apparently only 70% accurate. Probably less with a child i imagine as it must be hard to swab them.

Bluewarbler27 · 07/06/2020 23:26

There was a teacher test positive at my sons college. It’s residential. She was asymptomatic. No one else tested positive.
