Workmen in your property

I wondered what people’s views were on workmen/builders coming into your house now.
Obviously they can’t work from home.

I had some work planned before lockdown and they have contacted me to say they would like to start.

I have seen that cleaners have started back and know of others who are having work done in their home but I don’t want to break the rules or upset my neighbours.

What are people’s opinions?

As long as they maintain safety and the work is vital I would go ahead. Does their website say what precautions they are taking.

You've always been able to have work done on your home or have a cleaner in.

I had a decorator in last week. We were his first customers for weeks. He was so happy to be working again. Made me quite emotional.

We had builders here this week, mostly outside but some indoor work was required. We kept well out of their way and disinfected everywhere at the end of each day.

They didn't use our bathroom but after much deliberation I did offer drinks, too ingrained in me not too. I just left them on a tray by the door and boil washed everything after use.

Thanks everyone. The work isn’t vital but they said they were starting to work through their list of outstanding works and were contacting me to see if I would be happy to have them in the house.
They started back two weeks ago and have been working in other properties.
I can keep out of their way and will disinfect everything at the end of each day.
I don’t want to upset anyone or get this wrong and get reported but I also understand they would like to work and I think we can manage to whole thing safely.

We had the plumber in on Friday and it was fine. He wore a mask and socially distanced and we now have a working shower!

I've had two different plumbers (ooooh err) in to fix something. We stayed 2 metres away. It was fine.

We’re about to have some start. Builder cane round earlier to discuss and had a look round the lounge at some plastering. We know him so had a good chat - felt strange not being able to offer him a cuppa!

We had a plumber in last week, and he’s coming back for 2 days next week to refit our bathroom.

Ahem, not all tradespeople are men...

Having builders in your house is allowed and I have been back working in people's houses, although I'm not working a huge amount due to the lack of childcare. I'm keeping my distance with my customers but no masks (unless the work itself requires it!) as they are very difficult to wear all day, particularly if doing physical work. All have offered drinks so far, but I don't drink tea/coffee so I've not accepted the offer. I use the downstairs loo if necessary, but have been making an extra effort to go before/after.
We've also required a plumber ourselves in the last few weeks, and he did the same as I've done at work.
