Not on the same level as that at all but our (very big 2 floor) tesco has an unnervingly impossible system of up vs down aisles right at the last bit of the shop.

The whole place starts off great with a logical set of arrows getting you through the toiletries and medicine and then with a choice to peel off and go up the escalator or do the veg/salad or carry on with cleaning products. Runs smoothly there after right through until you get to the last 4 aisles. baking, pasta and tins and crisps. At this point you're supposed to align yourself with the crisp aisle and go down it finally to join the wine aisle and go down that into the corner to meet the staff member who points you to a till.

BUT the system fails because some one has put 2 aisles as 'up' aisles and you can't physically do the 'snake' to get to point the right way down the crisp aisle!

When you know the place you can do a tricky maneuver by the cereal wall early on to over come this. I confess it amuses me to see the polite chaos which ensues when an obvious newbie realises in horror that they are trapped in the corner with no way to obey the Rulez Of The Shop without levitating Grin

This type of minor social faux pas makes my day Grin

I enjoyed your story @Laiste, thanks.

Someone needed to give OP's location a lot less stickers, but at least it'll make everyone laugh.

muckandnettles · 05/06/2020 15:43

Our local Co-op seems to have the floor spots laid out like Twister.

Keepitup · 05/06/2020 16:10

@Laiste I enjoyed it too.

My local Sainsbury's have a bizarre system where only some aisles are one-way but the long aisle in between is one-way. It's baffling as to get from aisle A (unmarked) to aisle B you'd have to turn around and go back down aisle A but then you fine aisle B is one-way so you have to go past and down aisle C to come back on aisle B. It's bizarre. And so no one bothers to obey the one-way systems at all confusing and inconveniencing those who try.

It's the home backing and bread isle here, but we also have two up isles with no down at the end of the tesco maze.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 05/06/2020 17:38

We have two down aisles which result in mass panic by the porridge and everyone reversing back up tinned goods. I swear I've spent more time reversing in supermarkets this year than I ever have in a car Grin A sneaky contra-flow has also been installed, which leads the unwary into the self-checkouts, where trollies aren't permitted. Grown men have been reduced to tears at times and have to be gently guided to wines and spirits, which is where they were actually supposed to be queuing.

I'm so glad i'm not the only making a mental note of the one way system fuck ups!

Our Waitrose has no arrows and when i went in there for the first time in weeks the other day it felt an actual treat to approach the milk from which ever direction i liked! Grin
