Anyone else feeling horrified at what is happening in Brazil? They're on course to overtake us for deaths within days at the rate things are going. I really feel for them. Their president is still acting like nothing is happening.

I was looking at world o meter at Spain & Italy last night then just clicked on Brazil, I'm shocked that it's not in the news like Italy & Spain.

I had NO idea how badly they were being hit with it.

Like Italy and Spain were when they were being badly hit that was supposed to say in first paragraph obvs.

A lot of countries, specially in South America, are still on the steeply climbing bit of the curve.
Our tv news is starting to feel rather insular. I wish there were more reports from the rest of the world.

Peru is worse, more cases per capita. Mexico still rising, too.

Their hospital system is on the verge of collapsing. Very worrying. Latin America is the new hotspot it seems.

Stuart Ramsey (Sky News) did a piece about how it's affecting the communities of the Amazon. It's so sad.

I've not heard anything on the BBC.

Latin America is the new hotspot it seems. Wait until it gets going in Africa Sad

MarcelineMissouri · 06/06/2020 09:30

I don’t for a second believe that their figure for deaths is accurate - I would imagine they’re already way past us Sad

As I understand it so far the relative youth of those living in Africa have meant it hasn’t taken hold in the way initially feared. Hopefully that will continue.

What’s happening in the Americas right now is horrendous. I agree that numbers will be much higher than reported.

Sadly we're nowhere near the end of covid, the way global case volumes are rising each day is very worrying.

I feel really angry about coverage of Peru, I've read several reports saying their government did the right things by locking down early, but people didn't follow it. They didn't make money available to most areas, of course people had to keep going out in that circumstance, they would starve otherwise. Crap journalism.

What worries me even more are India, Pakistan and Iran coming out of lockdown when their cases are rising. I get that they can't afford any more lockdown. I don't know the answer. But it's worrying.

PrincessConsuelaBananahamm0ck · 06/06/2020 09:37

If it's taken hold there, which it has, then yes they will overtake our death toll quickly.....they have a population of over 200 million.

EvilPea · 06/06/2020 09:40

I’m sure I saw footage of Brazil a few weeks ago where there was literally dead bodies on park benches. Just left. It was horrific.

Newjez · 06/06/2020 18:57

Many of these countries can't afford the luxury of lockdown, and they will pay their price.

I'm not sure Africa will be affected though. They have a lot of experience dealing with Ebola.
