Anyone else getting fed up of working from home?

Week 11 now for me, seem to be finding it harder to keep motivated. Missing the company of colleagues in the office. The novelty of zoom calls has worn off! Anyone got any tips to keep up the motivation / positivity?!

When I get jaded I run up the stairs five times, sometimes ten. Gets the blood pumping, my neighbours might think I’m odd.

I get dressed everyday before work. Try to start a bit early and take a longer lunch. That said I’m stressed, it’s too busy, I’m on week 13 at home and work load needs to ease off. School work is so little, I’m disbelieving that this is all year 3 do in a week.

I am not enjoying it one bit. I feel like a poster above who said it feels like her home is contaminated with work. I don't have a separate area to work in and I'm sick of shuffling the laptop and paperwork around the place I live in. I am not able to work 'effectively' as I have turned into an unmotivated, bone-idle sloth. I miss the interaction with other people. I'm going into the office (by myself) two days a week and getting more done in a few hours there than I am the whole three days at home.

The novelty has worn off a bit but on balance I still prefer WFH to going into the office every day.

I know I'm v v lucky though as have lots of space, privacy, kit (two screens makes all the difference!) and DS is an older teen so pretty self-sufficient.

This period has shown me how much I HATED my commute though - not having to suffer that every day is probably the biggest advantage.

I agree that there are way too many meetings these days though! I thought that WFH would weed out all those unnecessary 'meetings that could have been an email' but no, they're still springing up like bloody mushrooms.

Yeah it’s not great and I certainly don’t want to do it permanently. I’ve always enjoyed doing a bit of work from home if I have specific reports to write, those days are still good. Long meetings via ms teams are manageable but I drift off a bit at times! It’s the more varied days with lots of little contacts that are a nightmare. I’m also fed up with having no table to eat at because it’s covered in work stuff (and school stuff) with laptops charging but I have definitely given up on putting everything away overnight. I miss my colleagues! We suggested a rota to go in but were told not yet. There’s plenty of space to social distance in our office- staffing numbers are less than half of what they were since our recent service redesign.

I have saved a fortune in petrol though!

This is why I’m not buying an office chair or big screens, even though I could charge them to work. My laptop can go back in its case when I’m not working. If I had a full home office setup it would take over far too much space.

Yes - having the space (and not simultaneously looking after, let alone homeschooling kids!.... so in awe of those of you doing that) makes a huge difference. We bought this house knowing from the off I'd be working from home so one of the criteria is that there would be a decent sized room for the office. Room for multiple monitors (I used to have two or three different machines before VMs and remote logins ), printer, bookshelves...And it's got a door which can be shut at weekends.

Working from home as a planned choice is really very different to have it suddenly thrust upon you with inadequate space and kit.

I’m about to order a filing cabinet. Stick it under the stairs
