Found this - answer a bunch of questions and it gives you an estimate of what your personal risk is of

a) catching Covid-19
b) dying if you do catch it

It's a data harvesting website

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 03/06/2020 20:29

Just competed the questionnaire. The result was I am in the lowest risk band (only due to the current precautions I take) for contracting Covid-19 but in the highest risk band for dying if I do. I'd better keep up those precautions.

Shoehorner · 03/06/2020 20:43

9 new cases in my town of quarter of a million people last week tells me I’m at low risk. It’s all way OTT this now. Anyone under 40 should be let loose and see what happens.

Scottishgirl85 · 03/06/2020 20:44

@shoehorner how do find out number of cases in local area? Thanks

Shoehorner · 03/06/2020 22:05

@Scottishgirl85

It was win a sky news link on their App.

Numbers are low now everywhere to be honest compared with where they were. Some counties/towns have had no new cases in the last week from those tested

lljkk · 03/06/2020 22:38

I take no precautions (beyond those legally required) and I'm in all the lowest risk bands, too. Even though I'm in the over 50s group that others would try to lock down.

Elephantsandsweetcorn · 03/06/2020 23:11

I'm in my 20s and a lone parent. Apparently I have 75% chance of catching it and middle band chance of dying from it... I'm a teacher and due back to work soon with no ppe or social distancing.
I have 'underlying conditions' but I have no signs or symptoms (ie, you wouldnt know there was anything wrong with me and have a full life expectancy)
This has really scared me.

lljkk · 03/06/2020 23:23

If I could swap with You I would, Elephants.
I'm locked out of work.
My 4 DC have their lives on hold.

ACautionaryTale · 03/06/2020 23:26

Well apparently I’m in the middle risk band.

I’ve had it and frankly it was nothing to write home about

PigletJohn · 03/06/2020 23:47

Let me think.

Do I want to provide my email address, location, income band, age, employment status, and if I have private medical insurance to some website I've never heard if?

lljkk · 04/06/2020 00:09

weird, I did incognito browsing & didn't have to supply an email addy to fill in the form.

CalmYoBadSelf · 04/06/2020 00:12

Apparently I am in the lowest risk band for catching it but the highest risk for dying. That surprised me as it still showed the risk of death as being less than 1%
I have asthma but it is fully controlled by one inhaler a day and you would never know I have it

DdraigGoch · 04/06/2020 00:18

I didn't have to fill in an email address.

PigletJohn · 04/06/2020 00:37

No, but they ask for it.

Keepdistance · 04/06/2020 00:49

Ive got asthma and risk was 0.11% Only 5% risk of catching yet ive maybe already had it..
I felt very unwell chest pain couldnt finish a sentence and had a racing heart. My o2 sats went down - usually 100%.

Elephantsandsweetcorn · 04/06/2020 08:39

@lljkk, it's so difficult for kids isn't it, my 2 are beyond fed up with his new way of life but I think they'd be rather upset if they were left without a mother

nether · 04/06/2020 08:47

It's data harvesting, so not a site I want to deal with

Does anyone know of any reputable sites, doing the same, but which are not data collectors?

FrodoTheDodo · 04/06/2020 09:37

I didn't even get asked for an email. High risk of catching it (HCP) and medium of dying from it but even that was 0.093%. Tbf I wasn't worried anyway.

PuzzledObserver · 04/06/2020 09:55

I was low risk of catching it (6%) but high risk band for dying - 1.1% owing to two risk factors mainly.

I plugged in data for my Mum (85, heart condition) and her risk of dying was 3.7%. I thought initial data from China showed death rate of 15% among the over 80’s, which is why I have been very concerned for her.

You know that all of those except location and age are optional?

SudokuBook · 04/06/2020 11:52

I am morbidly obese and still my risk of dying was only 0.218%.

SudokuBook · 04/06/2020 11:53

I’m in my late 40s

I'm 55. Apparently I've got a 5% risk of infection (possibly had it anyway) and mortality risk of 0.267%. I live in a town with a population of 250,000, no new cases for 5 days and no deaths in over a week. Can I be let loose with the under 40's please?

The risk of dying has never been anywhere near 15%.

Remember that a very high proportion of people infected with covid (anywhere between 30 and 70%) have no symptoms at all. So they're infected but they don't know it and they don't get tested. Among those who are hospitalised, death rates can be high due to age and other conditions, but bear in mind that the people who are hospitalised are a small proportion of a small proportion of the overall number of people actually infected. It's quite possible that your mum could get it and have very mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. I know the worry is the uncertainty - she may be unlucky, but in general the odds are in her favour, it's by no means guaranteed that 1) she'd catch it in the first place (even if exposed to someone who has it) and 2) that she'd end up very ill from it.

Catsmother1 · 04/06/2020 14:20

I read that at the peak the chance of catching it was 1 in 40, and now it’s 1 in 1000.
