happilybemused · 02/06/2020 18:14

Had ours today.

Quarter of the year group at a time from 15th June.

So as 4 weeks remaining every pupil gets 5 days at school but zoom teaching in some lessons.

No school bus or food.

Anyone else ?

Similar here, not heard that they’re going to be using zoom though

AStarSoBright · 02/06/2020 20:08

2 hours once a week from the 22nd. Groups of 10/15. Teachers moving around school, no food or drinks to buy but can eat and drink anything brought from home. I think DS will survive 2 hours without food!

ihearttc · 02/06/2020 21:12

DS1 is supposed to be getting 1 hour...not 1 hour a week. Just literally one hour full stop!! To say I’m furious is an understatement as it’s only with his form tutor which is no use at all.

nobbymcphailisverypale · 02/06/2020 21:43

It sounds really hard! So really barely any formal schooling before September. I guess it just shows what a mammoth task it is trying to organise school safely for the older teens Sad

And yet they seem to be managing fine in Germany (and using public transport too), albeit that it's part-time arrangements. Better than one personal tutor session in six months though.

I am disgusted at the way Y10s and 12s have been treated by the governments of the UK (and the equivalent years in Scotland are doing no better).

Titsywoo · 02/06/2020 21:54

Haven't heard anything yet. I really, really hope we don't get the 1 hour with form tutor thing (DD has mentioned this idea in the past - not sure where she heard it). It would be a complete waste of time - DD doesn't even know hers as she hasn't been to form room in 3 years (heavily involved in drama tech which involves setting up for assembly every morning). I too feel like the year 10s and 12s are being let down. No idea what will happen next year and no hint of what will happen in the next 2 months. Such disparity between what schools are giving them for online learning. For most subjects DD is just going over old ground as they clearly don't want them trying to learn new things on their own. No online classes here. Such a worry and pressure on us all.

FiveFootTwoEyesOfBlue · 02/06/2020 21:57

'quarter of the group in at a time, from 15th June' is exactly what the government guidance says.

No email yet from my DS's school. I suppose the best I can hope for is 1 day a week for 4 weeks. Sad

Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 02/06/2020 22:01

How can this be deemed acceptable? Schools have been told to open. 1 day a week, 1 hour, 2 hours a day - it's all bollocks. Schools are NOT open. I'm so angry.

chickedeee · 02/06/2020 22:04

Nothing from our school of value, our head spent a long time telling us what could not be done and nothing about what could be done 🤷‍♀️

I am a little disappointed because I thought they may offer something Sad

howells · 02/06/2020 22:08

Ours start back on 15th, current plan is for them to do one 4.5 hour day per week in their bubbles. Lessons will be in Maths, English and Science and possibly History and Geography depending on options. Other subjects to continue just with home learning. No details yet re bringing in food but I assume they will be able to as there will be no catering.

Don’t be angry at the school though. They’re following the guidance.

Flagsfiend · 02/06/2020 22:22

Secondary schools haven't been given the same guidance as primary, they have definitely not been told to have all y10 back at once. The guidance is very clear that face-to-face contact is to support remote learning, and remote learning is to remain the main way of learning for now. It says a maximum of 1/4 of y10 in school on any 1 day.

ihearttc · 03/06/2020 07:30

I suppose I’m finding it especially difficult to get my head around because I’m a TA. I’m back at work with small children who have no idea about social distancing (and not should they have to) but our school have provided a full day of lessons every day plus zoom lessons for my other son in Y4. Yet DS1 has had no zoom lessons and although he has been sent loads of work which he has done he is getting no real quality teaching. If a primary school can do it, why can’t a High School?

Lumene · 03/06/2020 07:46

Their case rate is a lot lower than the U.K.

If Boris hadn’t dithered for two weeks about lockdown we would have much more flexibility.

PeskyEdith · 03/06/2020 08:58

It's the lack of a "can do" attitude from the SLT at DC's school that is pissing me off.

happilybemused · 03/06/2020 19:32

We are now in from 15th June with a quarter of the school year group at a time.

Many lessons still on zoom where teachers can't attend.

So five days of teaching as we have 4 weeks left. Most of which which will still be on zoom.

No transport or food provided.

It is a no from me.

Finally have something - 20 min meet with form tutor on 15th then one (shorter) day a week from 22nd in bubbles (half of each tutor group) and staying in one classroom. So just core subjects and not their normal teachers - it'll be going over the basics I assume as they won't be in their normal sets. DD has agreed to go back but it will be hard for her as she has no friends in her form (she was bullied by most of them in y7 and 8 so made friends in other form groups). It's better than nothing I guess but it's not the happy return she expected.

oxydrive73 · 05/06/2020 16:45

Year 10 , going in one day a week for a maths. English and science lesson , also introducing filmed lessons and zoom lessons.

Titsywoo · 05/06/2020 21:24

That's good oxydrive. I would be a lot happier if there were some filmed or online lessons. Working off powerpoints for 8 weeks has really taken it's toll on us all.

taptonaria27 · 05/06/2020 21:54

Y10. One 30 minute session with form tutor - no zoom lessons to be offered .
I think our outstanding secondary academy just won me the prize for crappest effort.

SabrinaThwaite · 05/06/2020 22:46

I think ours is looking like it will be one full day, once a week. They’ve asked how children will be travelling to / from school (big rural catchment area). We’ve always done packed lunch so that’s not so different for us if there’s little or no catering. I don’t think there will be much to gain academically, but it will be good for children and teachers to see each other in person.
