Booked a holiday in the Caribbean for early next year - all refundable should flights/events/quarantine be extended - but I feel happier than I have done for ages! At last I have something to look forward to - even if I do have to cancel nearer the time. Thoroughly recommended!

I think it's a great idea. Fingers crossed you are sunning yourself in the Caribbean next year. Was looking for something for Christmas myself.

Fingers crossed for you. I've been contemplating booking a holiday for next year June but dh follows this virus too much and thinks there still could be problems then. I just want to something to look forward to even of it is a year away lol.

I fear if we wait till it looks like things will be ok Tui will put the prices up a lot cause everyone will be booking. What do you think?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 02/06/2020 13:38

We've done the same but for next September. We're supposed to be going to Orlando but plan to change it to Miami and the Space Coast.

Enjoy your holiday!

I think there will be a huge rush to book holidays once things look a bit brighter and more countries open up without insisting on quarantine. It could go either way - either prices will stay the same because they want to make a lot of money quickly, or they will go up substantially because of restricted numbers. It's a fine line I think.

Fingers crossed for you!
I am contemplating this too. We were supposed to have been away in April this year to a long-haul destination that was very much at the top of our budget. We can rebook for April 2021 now at a similar price. I am a bit concerned that if we hold off for too long price rises may mean we can't go.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - that holiday sounds fab! We did Cape Kennedy a few years ago and it was honestly the best and most interesting day out I have ever had. Enjoy it!

I have a Caribbean holiday booked too for February! Fingers crossed we get to go. It's good to have things to look forward to.

I booked two at Easter, one for next January and one for December. You should have seen the savings on them! Nobody was buying and the companies just wanted to get anyone to buy anything! I've been watching the prices going back up ever since. So far my December one has increased by nearly £700; and the January one by a whopping £1,300.... When I booked it (as I'd been watching the one for January since early February), I saved a massive £1,700 on the pre-Covid price. That was last week I checked - I expect they've crept up a bit more again since the government announced that they are going to review the quarantine again.

Is February a good time of year for the Caribbean?

I don't know anything about the weather in other parts of the world and would be gutted if I booked a beach/sun/diving holiday and it turned out it was hurricane season.

We've resigned ourselves to no holidays at all this year, but have a loose plan to have a more expensive holiday next time, justified on the basis that we have unused holiday budget to spend. Somewhere warm with great diving early next year would be perfect.

Hurricane season is June - November. I have visited lots of the area at that time. Mostly absolutely ok, but I was in Cuba when a hurricane hit. We were fine. These countries know how to plan for them. Yes, some places don't have the resources to protect their own populations, but even when that is the case, tourists get protected. I've seen worse at home in Scotland, to be honest.

Hurricane season in the Caribbean is June-Nov as PP said. I haven't been before but February sounds like a perfect month for us which is why I booked it - hot without the humidity that comes in the later months.
