Anyone else? I absolutely hate it. i sit at my kitchen table and stare at my pc - really miss my colleagues - most of the work im doing is pointless. i just feel angry and stressed from the minute I log on to the minute I log off. 2 kids and partner also at home ft. Cant go intothe office at present - do I hand my notice in? Been off sick with stress for a couple of weeks. back today and hate it just as much. Anyone else? How can i make it bearable? Thanks

I WFH for a month before being furloughed, I didn't like it either. I found it hard to separate home, relaxation time and work time. I didn't feel as motivated or productive. I guess not having an office at home didn't help.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 01/06/2020 20:35

I don't think it's normal to feel angry and stressed the whole time. Did you hate your job anyway or has lockdown brought these feelings on?

If it's lockdown then could you get some anxiety medication and take more time off and see if things improve?

If you felt like it anyway then you are probably in the wrong job. If you can afford to give it up and look for something else, maybe that is the best thing to do. If you can't afford to then maybe, in your lunchtine, spend time updating your c.v. and look out for something else.

no i quite enjoyed it before lockdown. Just hate being on my own all day and it's bloody stresful.
Have been pumped full of anxiety meds - it's all ahppened since this damn virus.

I’m not in the same situation as you, OP, so don’t have practical advice.

However, if you’re finding not seeing your colleagues and that lack of interaction tough, quitting will only make it worse. At least when you’re WFH it’s not forever, but if you resign it’ll likely be a long time before you get another job and are back in an office environment.

Lovelydovey · 01/06/2020 20:56

I hate the fact my home has been taken over with wfh equipment. Chairs, desks, monitors etc, including in my kitchen. It makes it much harder to relax and I can’t just shut it all away.

Peterbear · 01/06/2020 21:00

@VodselForDinner i know you're right - just really struggling to keep in mind that it's only temporary. Suprised myself with how much i miss going somewhere and talking things through with people .
@GreyGardens88 did you feel better now you're furloghed? I would actually love that option ad im not doing anything constructive anyway!

I hate it too and really struggling. OP do you mind if I ask how you went off with stress? What did you say? I feel I need time out but really not sure how to deal with it!

Peterbear · 01/06/2020 21:02

@Lovelydovey yes - I'm the same - our house isnt huge and i just feel soooo trapped. I hate blurring work and home life so much.

Why not set up a call with some colleagues for even half an hour each week?

homemadecommunistrussia · 01/06/2020 21:08

I recognise this situation.
It is really hard when you can't do your usual work. Can you talk to your manager and get a better idea when you might be able to go into work? So you have somethingvto look forward to.
Also can you phone your colleagues to catch up at all? Maybe find some jobs that don't seem pointless?
Certainly I wouldn't hand your notice in, instead be proactive on improving your work situation.

homemadecommunistrussia · 01/06/2020 21:10

Dh and I both WFH at the moment and pack everything away each day. It's worth the five minutes it takes.

Kljnmw3459 · 01/06/2020 21:12

I'm struggling with the homeschooling and childcare aspects while trying to get work done, but otherwise I really don't mind it.

ShinyFootball · 01/06/2020 21:14

I don't like it.

Before I was in the office 2-4 days a week which was just fine.

I miss friends, I miss going out after work, I miss talking to colleagues and the buzz and feeling a part of something.

My mood plummeted terrifyingly in the first week. I had peri natal depression and anxiety that lasted about 6 years, getting better when I returned to work FT and with an office to go to. I'm back on ADs.

It's not even that hard. Company is generous and understanding. Kids are older and not much bother.

It just doesn't suit me.

trilbydoll · 01/06/2020 21:16

I don't like it, I like to go to work, do my work, come home and do home stuff. I don't like everything merging into one with no school run or similar to structure the day.

Video calls help with the social aspect but the rest of it I basically need the world to go back to normal which may or may not be a realistic ambition!

Peterbear · 03/06/2020 19:46

@Sandiepatterson - just spoke with the gp and got a sick note. Then emailed my boss and the note. Also spoke with boss who has been pretty supportive. I'm glad i had some time off. Good luck.x

No, I absolutely love love love wfh.

We had a discussion about this today in a team meeting and every single member of my team said they preferred it and were much more productive.

I hope my workplace will allow it to continue long term.
