Really confused as to what to do?

I’m a Mds in a school, we’ve been working one day a week during lockdown on a Rota, looking after keyworkers children but now schools are back, the headteacher has asked us today in a meeting to be in every day, however I’ve got a problem.

I have a three year old who would usually go to my mums whilst I went to work but during lockdown, OH’s work haven’t minded him looking after him for one day.
Now the headteacher told me today that I’m now needed in work so she told me that I must take him to my mums so I can come into work but this isn’t right is it?

My mum isn’t in the vulnerable groups but I’m so angry and confused that we’ve had no warning or anything to put plans in place we basically got told today and she wasn’t very happy about me raising that issue.

Any suggestions or anyone else in a similar position with work?

If your mum usually has him would that have not been the plan going forward even if you had had more time?

I can see why you are cross re-notice & dieting childcare but I guess you need to now look practically & ASAP.

Can you consider a nursery or childminder? Our nursery are taking on new starters for those whose childcare needs have changed. Priority is being given to key worker children of which you are one.

You def aren’t supposed to use Grandparents seeing as they just made it illegal to go into someone else’s house 🥴 but who is policing it really? Seems to me like an emergency situation where you need support.. so potentially you could use grandparents for a week or so until you can sort out something else..

Childminders are back, so would be same situation for your arrangement with your mum I believe. What were you thinking would happen when schools went back?

Scottishgirl85 · 01/06/2020 19:43

To add to above, you don't go into your mum's house, just your child. Same as I will drop my child at childminders door.

What's your partner's work situation? He is responsible for 50 percent of the childcare problem

Pinkblueberry · 01/06/2020 20:05

If your mum isn’t vulnerable I don’t see the issue.

musicaljojo · 01/06/2020 20:08

The school wasn’t going to open to others as there wasn’t a good enough response but apparently more applied at the last minute but we wasn’t informed until today.

I was hoping by the time we went back which was probably going to be September that we could see parents again.

He hasn’t been in other childcare so I wouldn’t like to throw him in to it especially with all this going on.

Childcare is a valid reason for a child to go into someone elses house. If this is your usual childcare arrangement, it should resume? I don't see any issue.

Pinkblueberry · 01/06/2020 20:19

As a pp said childcare is a valid reason to go to a family member’s house. I don’t understand why you’re so against sending your DS to your mum’s if she isn’t vulnerable - what reasons do you have for not sending her? Childcare is open for business now - your mum is your childcare, so I don’t see the difference. I think you’re creating a problem for yourself where there doesn’t need to be one.

Ponoka7 · 01/06/2020 20:20

I've still been providing childcare for my GC. This question was asked early on in the Q&A on the BBC and it was deemed ok under 'providing care'. Many of the key workers wouldn't be in work if it wasn't.

The guidance and law is nonsensical, you've got to weigh up the transmission risk and how ill that you are likely to become if infected.

What gives you sudden protection if you are paid childcare?

missingmum · 01/06/2020 20:26

Nothing to be confused about surely? As pp said your mums not vulnerable so just drop your child off as usual Confused

musicaljojo · 01/06/2020 20:29

No I want to sent him but with this no entering other houses and such, I didn’t think it would be allowed as I was confused as to what the rules were on this but if others on here have stated they are doing it, then it’s cleared it up for me!
