Cold symptoms

Ds is not going back to school yet but his friend is. He spoke to him last night on Skype and the friend is streaming with a cold and didn’t look well.

If children have any sort of Covid symptoms will they have to stay at home instead of returning to school? How would they differentiate between another harmless illness and Coronavirus?

Could it be hay fever? Pollen levels are very high this week.

It could be, would school be ok with this if they don’t know for sure though? Just curious as to what happens now the children are starting to go back to school

Possibly hayfever - I don't normally get it but have had tickly throat and runny nose this week, and dsis is absolutely streaming with it - pollen levels have been very high and it's 'grass season'.

I work in a school and we have been told to send home any child with 'upper respiratory symptoms or a temperature' which I believe means has a cold. So this child wouldn't be allowed to attend our school. It's a shame because the vast majority if not all of those will just have a cold or hay fever.

This is another reason I think they should have opened schools to everybody because by the time you factor in those whose parents choose not to return and those like this child with respiratory symptoms we are going to be well under 50% capacity in each class.

I am really bad with hayfever currently. I have a streaming nose and eyes, snezzing, coughing and wheezing - I know it is hafever because I have excatly the same symtoms every year which always peak at the peak of the grass pollen season (now) It is a difficult though, as I do have to keep explaining to people it is hayfever, not COVID19. I am still going into work, no way I couldnt as mys ymptoms will last around 2 motnhs all together, and nothing I can do (yes, I am on prescribed meds and have tried everything) will help much.

I'm pretty sure that if you have cold symptoms you can now get a test to confirm if Covid19 or not. So I'd keep the pupil off, and the whole household isolate until test results back

If they have a fever cough or loss of smell etc they can get a test now.
