Do other countries have covidiots?

Are we the only country that is seeing the shameless flouting of lockdown? I seem to hear stories and see more and more photos of people either bending or breaking the rules. Today we went for a picnic and four separate groups were breaching guidelines to various degrees. How is it in other countries? I've googled but can't seem to find much out, are we really setting ourselves up to fail?

Many of the boomers are not shielding either
Why on earth should we be? Many 'boomers' are fit, healthy, productive members of society.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/05/2020 16:52

Boomers? Really?

Fuck off with your stereotyping and ageism!!!

managedmis · 31/05/2020 16:52

In Canada everyone is behaving

lazylinguist · 31/05/2020 16:57

I don't know anyone breaking the rules, but I can't for the life of me imagine why you'd think that breaking the rules was specific to the UK. If you think we are an unusually law-ignoring nation, then you must have a bit of a limited world-view tbh.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/05/2020 16:57

Are they?

Google suggests that isn't wholly true!

The80sweregreat · 31/05/2020 16:57

Sorry, I just used that word to make a difference between the really elderly and the more younger ones that are not as old.
Not being ageist ; many are fitter than people half their ages and work too. It's just they would make up the numbers that you see around. Thats all ( I'm not a boomer but I was born in the 60s)
Someone said who are all these people you see about. You would see ones in their 60 s and 70s as well as the young.
I'm not suggesting they should stay indoors

Musicforsmorks · 31/05/2020 16:59

@miafeta

In my home country running away from the hospital seems to be the thing Police are good at catching them quickly though
What is this? I want to know more! Do you mean infected people running away?
NaturalBornWoman · 31/05/2020 17:00

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Yes indeed.

Fuck off.

Musicforsmorks · 31/05/2020 17:02

I’m not sure boomers are boozing on the beaches and leaving litter all over the Lake District. Some probably are but if you view images and see it yourself they seem to be regular 30-somethings or young people stripping off for a sun tan 😁

I doubt boomers are kicking police officers in the face either.

That said, there are boomers who have a special place reserved in hell, I’m sure, but I don’t think they’re the main covidiot type.

Could be wrong..

Destroyedpeople · 31/05/2020 17:03

Good grief I have seen videos of Americans coughing over others to make a point, attacking shop staff and screaming 'covid is a hoax'..
They make us look quite sane.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/05/2020 17:03

Why is is ageist to say "boomers?" Isn't it just a word to describe people born in a certain time period, the same as saying millennials or Gen X?

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 31/05/2020 17:09

It's the way the word 'boomer' is spat out in such a derogatory way - not nice at all.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 31/05/2020 17:10

OK Gen Xr!!!

Doesn't have the same common usage, does it?

stuckindoors77 · 31/05/2020 17:15

*In my home country running away from the hospital seems to be the thing

@miafeta*

Please expand on this, I'm dying to know. Why are they running away and if they're well enough to run away why are they in hospital?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/05/2020 17:17

Yes but the poster didn't say "Ok boomer", I don't think it was used in an ageist way.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/05/2020 17:25

Of course there are here in the US! The number of 'covidiots' (not a word used much here) out and about last weekend (Memorial Day Weekend) was outrageous. We have both a river and a lake near where I live and the crowds of unmasked, close-packed fools was ridiculous.

The protests against lockdowns and masks have been rampant too. I wouldn't mind if these fools just brought Covid19 down on themselves, but they pull these stupid stunts then go off and infect 100s of other people!

borntohula · 31/05/2020 17:27

You were out having a picnic, if you can't tolerate other people's behaviour, stay inside.

LauraAshleySofa · 31/05/2020 17:30

After watching the awful scenes at Durdle Door, Dorset online yesterday I feel certain that some people are idiots with or without Covid19. I honestly cannot get my head around the entire crowd on that beach cheering on those boys to make a potentially lethal jump. It sends me cold to my core. Those jumpers are idiots too for sure, but I hope they are OK.

stuckindoors77 · 31/05/2020 17:40

I think too that in the U.K. we're so used to it being cold and grey that when we have rare beautiful weather, people go all silly and behave as if they're on their holidays. I think some of the scenes on beaches are down to this.

FurForksSake · 31/05/2020 17:46

What makes you say I should stay inside? Because seeing people flouting lock down when I am adhering to it 100% makes me cross? Think I've got as much right to be outside as anyone else.

OP posts:
FurForksSake · 31/05/2020 17:50

So if other countries in Europe aren't seeing second waves at this point and have people flouting as much as we do, that's great. I can stop worrying about all the mixing and flouting and stupid behaviour going on.

OP posts:
womaninatightspot · 31/05/2020 17:53

There's videos online of Italian mayors shouting at their citizens to stay home. I liked the "mobile hairdressers, it's going to be a closed casket no one will see you". In New York Cumo had a power point that started with If you think you can't catch it You are Wrong.

Whilst I'm doing as told I think there's a general attitude in the west that rules are for the guidance of wise me and the obedience of fools. I suspect in China, South Korea et al people are better at doing what they are told by government because otherwise bad things will happen.

iVampire · 31/05/2020 17:55

Why is is ageist to say "boomers?"

In this example because it is inaccurate and feeding lazy stereotypes

There no age related categories on the shielding list

It is inaccurate to mention boomers with an expectation that they should be shielded.

If the poster meant vulnerable that is what she should have said (either originally or in the clarification post)

And of course the vulnerable are urged to take a cautious approach, but have never been told they cannot go out at all

BillywilliamV · 31/05/2020 17:55

Oh do fuck off, all of you!

MrsTerryPratchett · 31/05/2020 17:56

I wish people had a basic grasp of science. No second wave doesn't mean you won't get it. Population level numbers and individual risk is different. I don't flout the rules because, although I'm low risk, I work with vulnerable people and therefore don't want to infect anyone.

The Belgian prince was at a party with people his age and he has mild symptoms. My dad would very likely have died doing what he did. Both of them would have been 'new cases'.

Do your own risk assessment, taking into account the rules, and don't go outside because you're annoyed. Don't die of stupidity.
