Has anyone travelled from England to Wales?

Does anyone know when we will be allowed to enter Wales from England?

Atm the rules in Wales are different to the ones imposed on England. No one can leave outside a 5km radius in Wales but in England there is no restriction as such.

I live in Essex and really miss my family who live in Cardiff. It's been six months since I've last seen them. I don't know how long I'm gonna be able to put up with this lockdown.

My son dropped his brothers at their dad's last week. Didn't have any problem getting there but was stopped twice while leaving and asked why he was travelling

jaded247 · 31/05/2020 01:01

@EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall Oh dear! How did it go with the police? My husband would drop me and the kids off and he'd make his way back. But dreading it if we get stopped on the way there since it would be 7 hrs on the road and a waste of a journey.

You arent allowed to come into Wales unless it's for work that you cant do at home. If you get stopped by police you could be fined. I say "if" because the police arent on every road and in fact I havent seen any for weeks because I suspect they are all in the areas tourists might go to.

TabbyMumz · 31/05/2020 09:14

Actually, there is another reason for travel, you are allowed to take children to the other parent

jaded247 · 31/05/2020 09:29

@TabbyMumz Yes that's true. I guess I'll have to wait for the next phase to open. Just wanted to see them before my daughter goes back to school. My mum told me there were police scattered around the Penarth Marina and the Bay yesterday.

Neil Kinnock travelled from Wales to London and back.

TabbyMumz · 31/05/2020 09:41

"Neil Kinnock travelled from Wales to London and back."

Potentially for work, which is allowed thousands cross the border daily for work. It's not a closed border.

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 09:43

It wasn't work. He visited his parents in London. One of their birthdays, I believe.

MaidenMotherCrone · 31/05/2020 09:44

Its tough on everyone but please stay away.

TabbyMumz · 31/05/2020 09:46

Suppose it depends how far he is from the border too and when the trip was. Ie if you are close to the border you can cross it for all sorts of reasons, then once across you are in England, and follow English rules.
I'm more surprised his parents are still alive, isnt Neil quite an elderly man himself?

Pacmanitee · 31/05/2020 09:48

My neighbour travels to Wales every day for work over the bridge, she has never been stopped or asked what she is doing or where she is going. Also once there she often has to travel up as far as Swansea and a bit beyond, and again, has never been stopped.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 31/05/2020 09:48

It was Stephen Kinnock (MP for Aberavon) who was visiting his parents; Neil and Glynnis.

TabbyMumz · 31/05/2020 09:49

You can also cross the border to care for vulnerable people, take them food shopping etc.

TabbyMumz · 31/05/2020 09:50

"It was Stephen Kinnock, was visiting his parents; Neil and Glynnis."
That makes much more sense.

Frazzled2207 · 31/05/2020 09:51

Pretty sure it was Stephen Kinnock visiting HIS parents not Neil.

Anyway I am in England and parents are in Wales very close to the border. They have crossed the border and come to visit me twice without problem. Police are bothered about people coming to Wales but not vv. But where my parents live their is a LOT of genuine cross border travel every single day regardless of lockdown.

ToffeeYoghurt · 31/05/2020 09:53

I need more coffee.
Sorry. It was Stephen Kinnock who travelled in and out of Wales>. It was Neil (and Glenys) who he visited in London.
I mixed them up. Blush

Yes, there are thousands of people travelling across the border every day for a variety of reasons (within the rules) and sone outside the rules and never get stopped. There arent enough police to go round.

Pacmanitee · 31/05/2020 11:27

Indeed @TabbyMumz. I bet the Welsh are gutted that the tolls ceased last year, what a way to monitor who was travelling in that would have been.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 31/05/2020 11:43

@jaded247 the police were fine ds1 just explained he had dropped his little brothers at their dads for visitation and they let him go on his way

Jessicabrassica · 31/05/2020 11:48

I know 13 people from West Midlands ds going for a day on the beach got fined and sent packing.
Essex to Cardiff seems a long way to drive to stand in the garden. I couldn't last that long without needing a wee, I have to say.

Gwenhwyfar · 31/05/2020 11:52

@Pacmanitee

Indeed *@TabbyMumz*. I bet the Welsh are gutted that the tolls ceased last year, what a way to monitor who was travelling in that would have been.
Only people coming in that area. There are plenty of other ways to get into Wales and nobody would cross the bridge to get into north Wales.

It's 5 miles, not km and what you're wanting to do is against guidance. MN shouldn't be facilitating you in doing that by letting you get advice on how to avoid the police.
jaded247 · 02/06/2020 09:36

@Gwenhwyfar Read my question properly! I was asking when we will be allowed to enter Wales from England NOT how to avoid the police and break lockdown rules. My dad is vulnerable and has a life threatening illness so I wouldn't deliberately put him at risk.

@MaidenMotherCrone I'm planning to stay away until we get the go ahead from the Welsh government.
