When will we know if "anti-bac" kills COVID-19?

Remember all the arguments back in Feb/Mar about whether "anti bac" sprays/wipes kill this specific coronavirus, Covid-19, as opposed to other coronaviruses? Yes, of course a virus isn't bacteria, but they've been found/further developed to kill some viruses too. I've been waiting to see if tests are done and announcements are made by Dettol etc, saying yay or nay. Nothing.

I've just found this for the facts, updated to cover President Trump's suggestions! It explains the reason that testing has/had not been done was because samples of the virus were not available for them to test cleaning products on at that point.

Meanwhile I think many many people are still using anti bac products thinking, or at the least hoping, that it's a defence against Covid-19.

I know soap and water is by far the best thing, followed by 70% alcohol sanitisers and bleach. But anti-bacterial products are often what people have to hand and what they're used to using against "germs". This could obviously be a problem and I'm surprised Public Health England haven't said more about this.

Does anyone know likely timescales for when lab samples will be released for commercial testing and how long that testing would take?

Thanks

No idea and am not sure it will happen very soon.
However, it is about the type of virus, particularly the outer layer, it’s envelope, it’s similarity to already proven other types or viruses.
Once that is disrupted, the virus becomes inactive.
Dettol does have a statement about this on their own website . It’s been there for at least 2 months.
It is not the only effective convenient solution, other countries have their own versions and hospital grade cleaners would have their own formulations. I would say use it with confidence. I do and am very particular, however I don’t rely on it because of the cost. Instead I tend to use Elbow Grease (degreaser) and 90% alcohol (only because it is cheaper than 70% in the UK). I Graduated to using use Dettol wipes to clean our phones and car keys (Cut in smaller pieces kept in a zip lock bag because they are expensive and I don’t like using wipes but this way I know my children will clean their stuff properly).

I wonder if the studies will happen, I imagine they're expensive. Dettol products do mention something about coronavirus on them I think.

It was impossible to find Dettol surface cleanser for ages, but it seems to be becoming more available now.

I would say that as this is a virus not a bacteria, to stick with bleach-based products if you must (always use cold water with bleach), hot soapy water and effective rinsing or appropriate alcohol-level gels.
