Yrs 10 &12 were originally to "start returning" from 1 June and we planned for that then during half term we were told not until 15 June and had to unravel the plans, so presumably there was something in the science to suggest schools needed to take things more slowly.

At the same time, some shops will open earlier than expected and some social restrictions have been eased.

Why do both those things make sense?

I dont think they ever said year 10 and 12 would return. I thought they said they would have some face to face time? Unless I heard it wrong.

Yes sorry, that's what we were planning for to start bringing them in for some face to face time from 1 June and then it got moved to 15 June, this week.

It was never from 1st June, they said hopefully some face to face before the end of term.

Yes but schools were told to start from 1 June, or at least that's what every school in our LA planned for.

The key word is "from" not "on" so our primaries here are going back on 15th June, for example.

Face to face at our secondaries will actually be via video call and more pastoral. Not in school unless those children are vulberable or kw children.

Yes from. We had planned to have very small numbers in daily from 1 June to get everyone some face to face time by the end of term. And then we were told we had to delay until 15th, at the same time as other restrictions were being lifted.

I don't know why that makes sense.

Some of our schools started planning for the 1st as soon as the guidance was issued, but the head of the MAT asked them to plan for 15th instead to give schools time to be ready. Perhaps your school did the same and then the LA or head decided 15th would be more realistic?

But if they are saying it's the 15th because other places will be open, then not sure of the rationale, as y10s and 12s don't need childcare.

Most of that age group has to get public transport, so the transport has to be in place.

It makes sense to gage public transport, to see what routes/times need extra buses etc. Hospital appointments will start again and we don't want a bus full of young teens and more vulnerable people.

Employers have been asked to offer flexi, so the whole thing can be planned accordingly.

Nothing is happening in isolation.

Our College breaks up on 26th June anyway so I’m not expecting anything until
September now.

I think your LA has it wrong, OP. It was only ever reception, year 1 and 6 on June 1st with some 'face to face' for year 10 and 12 at some later unspecified point.

Tbh the whole thing doesn’t make any sense to me. I think with schools it has a lot to do with space/staff availability.

yeah, transport is doing my head in. 2 DC used public transport (crowded bus/train) to get to education. When will that be allowed again?
