But will he be removed?

People hate him because how the media have portrayed him for years. The reality is most people understand very little about him or the advice he gives. He's just the scapegoat for policies and decisions some news outlets don't like.

For everyone that hates him at the moment, there's others that really don't care (they just don't create multiple daily threads about it). And what's the benefit of him (or Boris) going? It's not suddenly going to increase the public mood or lead lots of people to suddenly SD more. Surely people aren't that fickle and stupid. It will just create more instability in government and current policy.

We don't vote for advisors we vote for MPs. Maybe if Labour actually did something useful you'll get a chance to change it in a few years.

And what's the benefit of him (or Boris) going?

What's the benefit? This is a naive question, I'm sorry...

The aim is to preserve the workings of our democracy.

He has broken the code of conduct that advisors are supposed to uphold. Go and read them, they're publicly available to read.

When someone breaks the rules, there are consequences to hand out. If not, then rules (which are there for the good of your democracy) are useless.

Boris Johnson is completely free to hire another advisor who hasn't broken the rules or humiliated the government.

If he'd come out, said sorry, and that he'd pay the fine if Durham police deemed that one was due then this would be over.

As it is, they've all showed what thoroughly deceitful liars they are, people are angry, and it's festering like an unflushed turd.

MoreW1ne · 29/05/2020 09:42

Ah, it's just naive in your view as its suits your opinion.

You say it would be over if he apologised and paid a fine. Someone else thinks it should be over now. Someone else things it wont be over until Boris resigns...you get the idea.

The only thing that's festering is boredom on MN forums.

BlackberryCane · 29/05/2020 10:15

And discontent with the decision to retain Cummings. That's festering too, which a sensible Conservative would see and which is why dozens of MPs have called for him to go.

MoreW1ne We don't vote for advisors we vote for MPs.

Precisely the problem here, we’d rather not pay for an advisor that doesn’t follow his own advice which the public abided by at deep personal cost. Then he shrugs his shoulders and says he doesn’t care! Unbelievably Central Government then form a protective ring around him, fail to apologise, refuse any recourse (such as an inquiry) nor allow journalistic freedom to ask unresolved questions on the public behalf.

Are the public really supposed to accept such a shafting?

And I don’t agree that the removal of one aide who’s actions have brought the Government’s public health campaign into disrepute ‘creates more instability in government and policies.’

Ferguson and Calderwood realised their positions were untenable and damaging to the Government’s position and the Government strongly agreed with them. Isn’t the same applicable here?

BlackberryCane · 29/05/2020 11:00

Yes, us not having voted for him is rather the point!
