Are things getting back to normal in your area?

I went into isolation 2 weeks before lockdown and I’ve stayed in the whole time minus a walk twice, I’m happy with that, I don’t have a need to be out. My partner is doing all the shopping, but only goes out once a week- where he will go to all the shops needed.

He is just back from the weekly shop and popped into the pound shop to get me some essentials for my work, he said that it was packed more than usual and staff seem to have let more people into the shop than they did previously.

I’ve seen on the news about the beaches and hot spots being fairly busy too....obviously not the same as before...but is the world becoming more back to normal where you are or does it still look very locked down?

I’m just being nosey!

All seems normal here in the South East. Gardens full of families, roads busy and pubs doing takeouts

Yep pretty normal in Liverpool in the last few days. Beach is booming, groups in the parks, restaurants and takeaways busy doing take out, shops verrrry busy. In all honesty most people are still adhering to social distancing pretty well.

I live near a beach and it is far busier during the week than it was ever was before lockdown. I guess because everyone is off work, sees the nice weather and just gets in their car and drives there. Tailbacks miles long to get here and cars parked everywhere blocking drives etc.

Definitely busier just in local shops, parks etc as well. Lots of gangs of teenagers together that you didnt see earlier

It is half term so I guess people are going to be heading to the seaside etc...
I went fot a walk yesterday (proper walk in the mountains) and it was lovely and quiet. I think so long as people distance themselves then it is fine. Beaches will obviously be busier, even if it is local and surrounding visitors because normal activities for the half terms are not open. Think about a normal half term, activities would include the cinema, meals out, parks, theme parks, zoos, farms, museums, etc.. etc... all of those things are shut. So naturally more people will be at the same spots.

My part of central London is busier than during the first weeks of lockdown - more cars, construction workers back out on site, more people about - but obviously not back to normal at all: no bars, restaurants or shops open and only a handful of coffee shops doing takeaway trade only. One of my running routes takes me up Brick Lane and into Shoreditch and it’s eerily quiet with the party atmosphere gone.

Parks are busy and yes, there are definitely groups of more than two people who don’t look like a household relaxing together, but everyone is good at keeping distance between their group and others. We know that community transmission is generally low now and that there’s little evidence it’s highly transmissible in the open air, so I think it’s a good thing that more people are out getting some decent sun and exercise and social interaction.

Definitely more cars on the road but that is expected because more people are back in work and we are being told to avoid public transport and walk/ cycle/ drive instead.

Not here, no cafes, bars, cinemas, bowling places etc open lots (most) shops still shut. Kids would be off this week anyway I guess but they are not at school. Totally different to a normal life (we have a shopping centre around here which is still 70 percent shut, and a number of cafes and bars I guess places back to normal were quieter to begin with?)

Parks and take-aways have all re-opened here in Leicestershire and traffic levels seem almost back to normal. I noticed an almost complete breakdown in social distancing over the BH weekend.

People think this is over. A second peak is inevitable.

Pretty much back to normal where I live (NW)

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 27/05/2020 13:21

All quiet near me in a suburb on the outskirts of a large city. Quiet on the roads. Just the usual supermarkets, pharmacies open. M & S opened up sales of clothes and homeware so you now have to say whether you are queueing for food or clothing. Post Office has reverted to normal hours instead of 10 - 1 but all other shops still closed. Lovely and peaceful.
