can we do this now? I've been on gov.uk and bbc but am confused. has anyone been using the train (in the north of England) recently - are they fairly empty? Thanks for any tips. I feel that I become less well informed by the day!

"I don’t understand this post as you can’t visit relatives"

Yes you can, if your instincts tell you it is your preferred course of action when your household is in symptomatic isolation. The PM has explicitly said so

You can visit relatives if they're vulnerable and need care. This has been allowed right through lockdown. A lot of care happens on an informal basis. Personally I'd include visiting a person with depression, or checking up on elderly relatives as care, you can't always get a true picture online or over the phone.

I think that all bets are off - you can do what you please now as long as you fit in one or more of the following criteria (a) have a small child; (b) following your instincts; (c) feel that it fits within your interpretation of the rules; or (d) are trying it out to see if you could manage a bigger journey in the future.

My new mantra is to ask myself what would dominic do?
And then do that.

@Peterbear the guidance is here (you have to click several times from the main page to find FAQs, it's not clearly laid out) www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do#public-transport

@Realitea you can travel (preferably by car) to meet up with a relative, that's perfectly allowed.

How awful that DC actions have made people feel they can do what they want with no consideration of other people.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 26/05/2020 18:24

Yes even leaving Dominic out of it it would be completely fine under the new slightly relaxed rules to drive or walk to visit a relative, have a socially distanced chat over the garden wall, or maybe go for a walk together to their local park, and maybe drop off a birthday present or a homemade cake. It’s only the public transport aspect which would be a problem.

Also, yes you can visit relatives, as long as it’s outside, and the distance doesn’t matter.

Not everyone has family who live in a 5 mile radius of their house.

@AMostExcellentStick thanks for that. Will have a read.
