Yes for the first time in my life I have emailed my Conservative MP, 3 times in fact.
I got an automated reply informing me I need to include my name and address.
I haven't written before because I've no confidence in my letter writing or putting my point across clearly but this was an easy email to write!
A link to a letter one could copy and send would be good.

yogz1976 · 25/05/2020 10:58

ok, here is the email I sent but go ahead and use your own wording. It's good if it comes from the heart.

"Dear(first name of your MP),

At a time when the nation has pulled together and made huge personal sacrifices to fight the spread of the covid-19 virus -and with DISASTROUS consequences to the economy- many people are rightfully enraged at Dominic Cumming's flagrant disregard of the lock down rules that he himself had a hand in making. It would appear to a lot of people that there is one rule for the people, and another for our political "elite". I hope that you can see that the behaviour of Cummings was unacceptable and Boris Johnson's efforts to defend his actions were very poorly judged. I would ask that you be among those Conservative MPs urging for Cumming's resignation.

Sincerely "

My MP (Chloe Smith) is so useless I’d get a better response writing a letter of complaint on a rock and throwing it into the sea.

Comingoutontop123 · 25/05/2020 11:03

I'm sure they'll read them.

bumblingbovine49 · 25/05/2020 11:04

I've already done this but mp is labour so I imagine she is already calling for his resignation.

TopperSail · 25/05/2020 11:05

Thanks yogz1976

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/05/2020 11:09

I emailed mine yesterday. He’s useless but I felt better!

LilyPond2 · 25/05/2020 11:22

One approach to writing to your MP is to detail the sacrifices which you/ your family have made in order to comply with lockdown rules and ask them to explain why there should be one set of rules for the rest of us and another for Cummings.

AnxiousAnnie13 · 25/05/2020 11:22

I did, but since my MP is Alok Sharma I doubt I'll get a good response

effingterrified · 25/05/2020 11:25

Done.

LilyPond2 · 25/05/2020 11:35

I did, but since my MP is Alok Sharma I doubt I'll get a good response

Remember that even if your MP is dutifully toeing the party line in public, he /she will be using their mailbox as a way of judging which way the political winds are blowing.

Hadenoughfornow · 25/05/2020 11:36

We have already. Not expecting much. Hes a career politician who doesn't seem to have any backbone.

user1471453601 · 25/05/2020 11:38

I emailed my MP at 11:00 pm and got a reply at 10:50 am. Shes a Labour MP, and replied along the lines you'd expect. But the speed of her reply has impressed me.

LilyPond2 · 25/05/2020 11:41

A career politician with no backbone may be particularly persuadable to stop backing Cummings if he can see that doing so is likely to haunt his political career in future!

RunningNinja79 · 25/05/2020 11:41

My MP is Rishi. What's my chances of him paying any attention?

missyB1 · 25/05/2020 11:44

Right I’m on it. Ours is a Tory who always makes a big noise about supporting our local hospitals (although happily voted against NHS pay rises 🙄), so I will press the point about Dh being a Dr in our hospital and the risk that posed to himself and our family.

LilyPond2 · 25/05/2020 11:44

I think a highly ambitious politician like Rishi Sunak will pay a great deal of attention to which way public opinion is swinging!

SaskiaRembrandt · 25/05/2020 11:47

Those of you who have Tory MPs, especially cabinet members really should. They might be supporting him publicly, but they'll have an eye on what their constituents think because it could affect their chances of reelection.

Hadenoughfornow · 25/05/2020 11:47

Lily you never know. I may be surprised. I've not been up until this point........bit who knows. He has been silent on this up until now. Neither coming out in support or against. But that is how he works. He is a weasel.

onalongsabbatical · 25/05/2020 11:47

It's not about them noticing, replying to, or responding to, your email. It's weight of numbers. More than one has said this morning that they've had more emails about this from people who never email blah blah - it's about how they know what we, collectively, think - and it takes a few minutes, so please do it.
Mine's the odious Rees-Mogg but I emailed him first thing this morning and I was polite but pointed out that his own government's message and credibility is undermined. They do note the strength of feeling.
Don't waste five minutes arguing it's not worth it. Waste that five minutes doing it.
Please.

LilyPond2 · 25/05/2020 11:49

What Saskia and onalong said!

TruthTwisters · 25/05/2020 11:53

Done!

Mayra1367 · 25/05/2020 12:10

It’s better to write your own email than using a template. My
MP sent a reply saying he ignores template emails so I emailed back again using my own words and got a reply .

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 25/05/2020 12:23

I have emailed. Mostly because I want to register my general pissed off ness with the continuation of lockdown. But also because Dominic Cummings is a twat.

Conservative backbencher here. Safe seat, so he won't be worried about election chances I don't think.

Pelleas · 25/05/2020 12:24

My MP is Labour, so I am sure they are already onto it!
