Don't put him next to a key worker kid ...

To all the parents apparantly worried and complaining to school about your child having to be in a bubble with a key worker kid ...

Most of these kids have already had it and are likely (though we know not definitely) immune right now!

So they are probably the ones you should be hoping little Jonny sits next to!

I think the Key Worker children being kept in their own bubble is pretty standard. They will be keeping different hours and days for a start.

beebeeduck · 22/05/2020 20:14

Don't start me on parents asking for their child to be on the same rota as "Popular Johnny". Or to not have the same day as "Naughty Eric"

It's awful but I am not at all surprised. I once had to ask for my child to be away from another child but explained to the school that it was a clash of personalities and they weren't well suited (which wasn't entirely true but I wasn't prepared to point the finger at 'Naughty Eric')

StrawberryBlondeStar · 22/05/2020 20:15

@flibbertmygibbert not all schools. Mine are in the private sector so it’s full days for all years allowed back in.

My eldest will be in a keyworker bubble. My other 2 will be back in their normal classes.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/05/2020 20:16

It’s full days for all year groups allowed back in at our school too (state sector). Same hours as the keyworker children.

LillianBland · 22/05/2020 20:22

Why would people assume key workers kids are more likely to have had coronavirus? If their parents work in the health service they will, hopefully at this stage, be wearing protective gear and all the shop workers around here sterilise their hands every time they touch money/shopping.

They’re probably taking more precautions around others, than joe/Joanna public who is merrily skipping around the shops. Not to mention certain parents who are terrified of sending their kids to school, but think nothing of having friends around for barbecues and quite happy to let their teenagers gather in parks/on beaches.

Lovecat · 22/05/2020 20:22

Our keyworker/vulnerable children are staying in their bubble. There are quite a few siblings in the group and they love being with their brothers/sisters at school. And the children who do* return in the different year groups will be doing different hours/days to allow for social distancing in drop off/pick up, so it makes sense that our keyworker/vulnerable children are kept together.

*the independent SAGE advice published in draft today suggests that children should not go back til the 15th - we are waiting for official govt advice (depends on what their SAGE advisors tell them) but our LA has said they want us to go by this date.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 22/05/2020 20:29

@Lovecat is your LA choosing to go with the “independent SAGE” groups advice rather then actual SAGE?

NailsNeedDoing · 22/05/2020 20:33

None of our key worker children have parents working on the frontline, so they will join their cohort if their year groups return. The ones whose year groups don’t return will be their own bubble. Otherwise you’d have to keep vulnerable children in the key worker bubble too if it was going to be worth doing, and for some that would defeat the point of them coming in in the first place if they couldn’t join their class when they came back.

Thankfully, our wonderful head teacher had preempted those parents who will be unhappy no matter what we do, and has already said that there will be no discussion with parents about their children’s bubbles and our decisions are final.

Abelard40 · 22/05/2020 20:35

Ah just posted about this elsewhere.. what bothers me is the key worker bubbles carry on as they have - feeding the school pigs and playing football - and don’t get the exam support the rest are getting now. Seems a bit unfair.. expecting a kick back from parents possibly.

MorganKitten · 22/05/2020 20:36

So many people on here demand schools are open as children are less likely to get it... then key worker children would be the same as their children. Unless children are able to carry and spread it....

MichonnesBBF · 22/05/2020 20:38

Can people now see how it hasn't been so easy to reopen...schools honestly can't get this right for everyone...as was said in a previous thread...complaints are now coming in from parents with demands/requests..
One parent dosen't want their kid with a key worker kid...key worker parent wants their kid to be intergrated back into their own class...
Little Johnny's wants trump everyone else's because he is entitled to an education...
Reporting lockdown rule breakers (what will school do about it)

Our poor receptionist has had more crap thrown her way this week, its actually unbelievable...
Parents are allowed to make all these demands, yet schools have to supposedly come up with plans to suit all...because lets face it when they have been asking for more guidance or shown confusion for what is actually been asked of them, they are met with lazy, work shy, get on with it comments.

MinkowskisButterfly · 22/05/2020 20:39

Our ‘keyworker kids’ are going to be in a separate bubble from the other kids as they need full time care and the non keyworker kids are going to be doing part time.

Mine dd is a keyworker kid but we haven't needed to send her in - she would be in a normal bubble. There are likely going to be keyworker kids in the class bubbles 🤷🏼‍♀️

Lovecat · 22/05/2020 20:41

@strawberryblondestar they're waiting to see what the Govt say on the 28th before deciding, so nothing official, but they've made noises that they're not happy with 1st June now that this has been published.

ifonly4 · 22/05/2020 20:41

Schools have staggered arrival and departure times. Keyworker children are in school for longer hours and, therefore, kept in a separate bubble.

Not all schools will be able to offer a place for all reception, Years 1 and 6 due to staff availability and space. If you're lucky to be offered a place for your child, you either accept it, or if you don't feel that's right for them, keep them at home and support home learning through school and your own resources.

Biscuit

You made both scenarios up, didnt you.

PafLeChien · 22/05/2020 20:45

Most of these kids have already had it and are likely (though we know not definitely) immune right now!

you are talking absolute rubbish. Shame, as your original point gets completely lost because of that.

RandomMess · 22/05/2020 20:46

My criteria as a parent would be bubbles where the DC in it are going to "work" as best as possible socially so if two particular DC clash like hell they aren't together...

Not that I would say anything to the school!

Lynda07 · 22/05/2020 20:50

Who says the kids have already had it?

I'd keep them at home for now anyway.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 22/05/2020 20:50

@Lovecat I’m really surprised the LA would be so swayed by a group calling themselves the “the independent SAGE” group - like the fact that putting SAGE in the title means their voices should be heard above all the other academics.

What happens if another group of scientists pop un next week calling themselves the “unofficial SAGE Group” and say schools should open fully, will that sway them the other way?

And when did the scientists in SAGE become political figures who don’t give their independent advice?

Don’t want to derail the thread, but I would be seriously concerned if my LA just decided to prefer the evidence of a group of unaccountable scientists.

AuditAngel · 22/05/2020 20:51

Initially our school would only take Keyworker’s children if both parents were key workers. Having now said they will extend their offering to a critical worker parent, the6 are not taking any Reception, Yr 1 or Yr 6 kids as they don’t have space. No idea when my year 4 might go back.

CheesecakeAddict · 22/05/2020 20:52

@Abelard40 in order to keep class sizes down, most kids are not going to get the exam support either. I would imagine the year 10s going back (should they go back before September) will end up being covered by non-specialist teachers who don't know the course content or the exam. It will be supervising them doing the home learning work set.

tilder · 22/05/2020 20:52

@StrawberryBlondeStar thats awful. I've been worried about it tbo. Dh is a medic, does high risk procedures. Been tested 4 times in the last month for various reasons. All negative, but several of his colleagues have had it. Varying from asymptomatic to ventilation.

We are very careful at home, but the reality is dh is the most likely covid source for our kids. I WFH so they havd had no contact outside the house.

Am wondering if anyone will look at dd (yr6, going back 8th June) and want to keep awaySad

HelenaJustina · 22/05/2020 20:56

Our key worker kids are in their own bubble, they will also be the only ones allowed to access wrap-around care.
We have already fielded emails from parents requesting which half of the class their child is in, which teacher they get and which friends they are with...
And I can tell you for free that I sure as hell ain’t looking at them until I’ve had a few days break!

StrawberryBlondeStar · 22/05/2020 20:58

@tilder it’s outrageous. Luckily school have had none of it. Also it’s a bit ridiculous - we’ve had no outbreaks in school among us keyworkers - you would think it would actually be reassurance to send kids back in! If we haven’t had an outbreak among doctors, teachers, judiciary, food production staff then that’s probably a good sign.

BakewellTarts · 22/05/2020 20:59

My DD2s BFF is the daughter of a key worker. Please can she sit next to her? And be in her bubble? They would be so sad not to be together. Fuck covid. DD2 will be fine and my risk assessment of the rest of our family is that we should be too (no adverse factors and yes I know we could be unlucky but it is unlikely).
