Socially distant games

My daughter is desperate to see her friend - they're 9. Obviously we'd be outdoors and need to keep them 2m apart minimum.

Anyone got any activities we can use to normalise it a bit and not have us reminding them every two minutes ?

So far

Hula hoop
Skipping
Running
Water guns
Dancing

Things like chalk on pavement I worry about how clean the pavement is (ie not at all) and with games with football etc it's tricky because they can't both be handling the ball really.

Charades? Easy to do from 2 metres apart.

thaegumathteth · 22/05/2020 00:56

Ooh yes that's a good one!

You can also normalise the new normal and support them to adapt by being relaxed and positive about what you're asking them to do, instead of fretful and apologetic.

Playdonut · 22/05/2020 01:01

Kids don't need to social distance, only adults. That's why they wont have to at school. Try not to stress too much about pavement disease or football disease, you could drive yourself crazy trying to eliminate all risk.

Badminton slower than football.
Frizzby
Kite flying
Bike riding, the bikes alone should help with social distancing

Teach them semaphore so they can try sending "secret" messages to each other across the park/field etc. You have to be distanced for that. We did that with brownies a few times years ago and they enjoyed it. I think we set little challenges for what they were trying to communicate.

thetupperwareboxofdoom · 22/05/2020 01:09

@Playdonut that's not true. There's nothing in the guidelines about children not needing to socially distance.

thaegumathteth · 22/05/2020 01:10

@user1635482648 absolutely that's why I'm trying to be prepared so fhat I can offer alternative solutions etc

FWIW 3 of us (including dd) have asthma so I'm being mindful of that.

I didn't know kids didn't have to social distance?!ive not seen mention of that anywhere and thought they would be socially distancing at schools albeit possibly within bubbles

I know they dont have to at school but not sure about elsewhere actually. But if it's ok at school, why not at the park? The guidelines are very confusing xxx

thaegumathteth · 22/05/2020 01:32

This seems to indicate they're expecting distancing?

These are games aimed at schools and larger groups, but some could be fun.

thaegumathteth · 22/05/2020 17:48

Thanks both

Swing ball, tennis or badminton

midnightstar66 · 22/05/2020 18:29

My dd was playing 1:1 hockey with goals distanced well apart yesterday

midnightstar66 · 22/05/2020 18:31

Kids definitely have to socially distance. They aren't always managing it in hub schools because, well, it's impossible but yes they are definitely meant to!

SprinkleOfInsanity · 22/05/2020 18:39

Do you have a blackboard? Pictionary could be fun!
