The cost of Face Masks

The Range sell face masks. 25 Face Masks for £19.99 Confused.

That seems rather extortionate to me!

Im not in a high risk group for covid19. But I definitely would consider wearing a mask in shops/public transport etc, to protect others (in case I'm carrying the virus asymptomaticly). But I'm on benefits, due to mental health, and there is no way I could afford to keep splashing out that much! I mean if you use the masks correctly, 25 will not last long.

I'm sure they must be making a massive profit on these?

If it's important that we wear masks then surely there must need to be some kind of regulation on the cost and supply of them?

I just wear a summer scarf or Seasalt handyband, I have got a cloth mask but it keeps pinging of my ears Grin

Try this. Easy way to make them with no sewing.

The 3 ply surgical masks can be reused, you have to tumble dry them on high heat for 30 minutes though. 4 hours max wear each time which is more than enough for a shopping trip. But as already pointed out the general public don't need surgical masks, anything that covers the mouth and nose will protect others.

When and if masks become mandatory on airlines or public transport, would they have to be medical grade disposable masks? Or would cotton washable masks suffice?

I think that if supermarkets require customers to wear face masks, then they should really provide each customer with one on entry to the store. Same for airlines.

Disposable surgical masks generally seem to be better than cloth masks in terms of stopping particles (and my own experience is that they are more comfortable to wear in hot weather). However, even cloth masks are a lot better than nothing at all.

The UK government should have worked with manufacturers to boost the supply quickly and create a rationing system, like Taiwan did as soon as they heard the unnerving reports from China.

In the meantime, though, as I say, cloth masks much better than nothing at all.
