Seeing family and friends - England

Racoonworld · 21/05/2020 17:07

From the 28th May people in Scotland will be able to see another household outside, and from the phase after start being able to see households inside. Northern Ireland have a very similar plan. When do you think we will be able to do this in England? I know we can currently see one other person outside, but we don’t seem to have a plan to move forward from this.

It’s is stage 3 of the plan I think and we are in stage 1. Very frustrating that the kids will be back at school, people will be back in offices and on public transport yet we can’t see family and friends. Because that doesn’t help the economy.

They should address it otherwise people will get frustrated and just make their own risk assessment. For example having a couple of friends over in the garden. Less risky than going on a tube to work on an office.

Is it? It doesn’t say that in the 50 page document. Have they said that elsewhere?

I agree they really need to let people know the plan, especially when other UK countries will be allowing a lot more.

It's going to be house party galore if it happens. My neighbours have form for this. I hope it happens when the pubs reopen at the same time.

Delatron · 21/05/2020 17:19

Sorry I thought I just saw it on the briefing! But maybe not. Either way it’s very unclear.

My only hope is that they will suddenly announce it in a week or so. That’s why it’s not on the plan.

Paddingtonthebear · 21/05/2020 17:20

Most school kids in England will not be back in school before September. Unfortunately.

Angeldust747 · 21/05/2020 17:21

We're in stage 2 and they mentioned the idea of a 'bubble' of 2 households in the 50 page document but no dates - but that was meeting indoors for childcare etc. I don't think it will be long before England follow everyone else's lead for meeting outdoors though.

Bananasandorangesss · 21/05/2020 17:49

@Racoonworld you’re right no mention in the 50 page doc - reckon September

Delatron · 21/05/2020 17:52

I really don’t think people will stick to the rules until September. Some will, maybe that will be enough! But if other countries are more relaxed then it will be tough for our government to keep to the hard line on it.

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/05/2020 17:55

I don’t think they can justify September. My in laws in Spain are now allowed to see each other in each other’s houses. SIL and BIL were at a friends birthday meal at her house the other day... 6 of them, which is within the rules. So how could we be 4 months away?

I hope so, would make this a bit more bearable, especially with the warm weather

Don’t think they can make us to this until September surely? If other countries are allowing visits in houses surely we should too?

I’m sure I read June about joining two households, but I may be wrong.

Thewheelsonthebus23 · 21/05/2020 18:01

I honestly think once the other countries allow it, England will follow suit.

Delatron · 21/05/2020 18:06

Yes if that is the case in Spain and other countries then we can’t be too far behind. I think it will be announced in a couple of weeks and maybe we will do a ‘bubble’ idea though who knows how that will work.

beachdays123 · 21/05/2020 19:02

It’s in the roadmap as a tentative suggestion under stage 2 from June 1st I believe, the bubble idea. I understand the point but personally I feel this is unnecessarily restrictive particularly if only allowed outdoors - I know in Spain and France (and I believe Italy too?) you can have gatherings indoors of up to 10 irrespective of households

CoachBombay · 21/05/2020 19:07

Could be worse you could be in Wales, even in Green your only permitted to socialise with another household or small group but maintaining social distancing 🤦🏻‍♀️

How are us Welsh supposed to have adult relationships, or our kids hug their grandparents. Ridiculous.

RhymingRabbit3 · 21/05/2020 19:34

Quite a few people I know, including myself, are meeting family and friends outdoors with distancing. I really doubt that anyone will go until September without seeing anyone. Except maybe the most staunch "save one life at any cost" people.

ScarfLadysBag · 21/05/2020 19:39

We've just been talking about this. Nicola Sturgeon just said it was ok to travel further afield to visit relatives, but the issue is around going in their home/using loo. My parents are 2.5 hours away so we would need to have a wee at some point! They do have a lot of foliage in their garden...

Delatron · 21/05/2020 22:22

I think there will be lots of people weeing in bushes over the coming weeks..
