If this is the future then count me out, can't see it being a huge hit. That's a lot of cleaning right there.

Haha that looks terrible. Curtains no, but some kind of barrier seems sensible.

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2020 12:25

YY, I think some sort of social distancing between tables and maybe some perspex but shower curtains? Confused

They've had this sort of thing at restaurants for a week or so over here.

And, no, none of the one's I've seen (quite a few: people are posting pictures to every WhatsApp group out there - it's like everyone being 15 all over again: "oooooh, I sneakily got into a restaurant, aren't I a dare devil?") Have been anywhere near as ugly.

Places around here seem to favour movable walls. I reckon they's also be easier to clean.

ShaniaPayne · 20/05/2020 14:37

Wow. Like eating spaghetti in a seance.

CockCarousel · 20/05/2020 14:42

No I wouldn't, all that hanging plastic would feel like I was in a serial killers flat.

SeriouslySoDoneIn · 20/05/2020 15:18

Looks incredibly claustrophobic, I’d not go anywhere with that hanging about

ifonly4 · 20/05/2020 15:21

The look wouldn't put me off as coffee and cake as that's something I used to enjoy. Having said that, I'd want to know I could get to the table without touching the curtains - they're going to be so hard to clean constantly.

feelingverylazytoday · 20/05/2020 15:27

Wouldn't perspex screens that can be quickly wiped down between customers be better?

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2020 15:56

Grin at serial killers flat. All that flapping can’t be good for the spread.

No way!!

That's going to be a real delight in the summer!

I think it'll cause more problems than it solves.

My personal issue with eating/drinking out is people handling the food, cup, plate etc and coughing/breathing/sneezing on the food.

Much more than someone sitting 2m away outside (which is the first style of 'eating out' I will consider).

Obviously,as he says,it'll be difficult/impossible to survive with far fewer tables - but there's still takeaway options and people will have to accept paying more 🤷🏻‍♀️

But, no, coffee in a hot sticky enclosed space that looks like a Morgue- doesn't appeal, funnily enough!

Sparklingbrook · 20/05/2020 16:15

Imagine the flies. Sad

Unless they are taking the curtains down every day and washing them I would think shower curtains would be very difficult to wipe down. I've seen pictures of Perspex screens in other countries and they look better.

MiniTheMinx · 20/05/2020 16:38

I'm not interested, I'd rather stay at home. I'm not the most sociable person. But if I want to go into town, drink tea and eat cake it's a social thing. I miss having lunch with friends in the week, but we talk to other people, and the cafe owners. The idea of going out to spend money, eat and drink in a sealed box, behind a curtain, or wearing masks is not appealing. It's a small pleasure completely ruined, so no, I'll stay home.

failedasaparent · 20/05/2020 16:47

No, the virus can live on plastic for ages and they would have to be throughly cleaned often.I think they would increase the risk.

firawla · 20/05/2020 17:11

No it looks gross. I’d go to a normal cafe without barriers tbh, just spaced tables or eating outside would be very little risk. I’m not overly worried

Batshittery · 20/05/2020 17:14

Grin@ serial killers flat

It's a no from me. It looks so grotty (and sweaty)

ShaniaPayne · 20/05/2020 17:17

Although on a positive note, if you manage to find your way to the loos and back again, you win a crystal and 5 seconds in the Crystal Dome.

I feel the same way. If I'm going to pay a few quid for a cup of coffee that I could make at home for a fraction of the price, I want a bit of atmosphere and the opportunity to socialise. Otherwise I'll buy a cake at the bakery and make my own coffee at home. Dining behind screens or curtains is grim. Either I'd stay at home or take my chances with the virus.

Noworrieshere · 20/05/2020 17:51

It looks like it would be really hot and sticky in there. Not for me, thanks.

WhisperingJesse · 20/05/2020 17:54

Ooh, I've been to that cafe a lot! It is a fab place normally. I suspect that when we return to our workplace then I would still go there with colleagues.

Batshittery · 20/05/2020 17:55

I would imagine that if you had bare arms, those plastic 'curtains' would stick to them. Yuk

NoRoomInBed · 20/05/2020 17:57

Anyone seen dexter? You sure they ain't serving you for dinner?

Pipandmum · 20/05/2020 18:02

No.

LostandLockeddown · 20/05/2020 18:31

Bless them, I know them very well and this is a fantastic place with the nicest people (and best coffee ever) who are trying v hard. I will still be spending there but it'll be takeout for me. It isn't obvious from those pics but their space is v difficult. Long and narrow. And he has also bought a purification system that filters bacteria and viruses from medical provider in Germany (they supply hospitals).

They're trying hard even though I agree that this doesn't necessarily solve anything with the shower curtains.
