Developed bad cough - AIBU to worry?

I went out for a run yesterday afternoon & 90 minutes later after having dinner, I coughed non stop for about an hour.

Cough died down after that & no coughing over night. This morning I feel a bit phlegmy with occasional urge to cough.

Am of course panicking I have the virus. Is it normal to feel so worried? Ordinarily I’d just think I had a bit of a cough or touch of hay fever but now I’m really worried :/

For the vast majority of people it is just a mild virus. Keep an eye on your temp and your breathing, stay at home and rest, and the most likely scenario is you will be fine in 7 days. My friend is a paramedic and tested positive with only loss of smell. She had a couple of tired days and a couple of naps but was back working her usual shifts 7 days after her test results.

Thank you southern I don’t want to worry anyone, DH thinks I shouldn’t mention it to family but just self isolate which is fine

I think anyone over 5 with symptoms can be tested now so look online and book your test today.

Book a test. You all need to stay indoors for 7 days (you) and 14 days (rest of household).

gingercat02 · 20/05/2020 08:05

@Kit19 you should get tested it's useful information for you to know if you have Covid or not, and as a population it's good for all of us

DH and I have been out walking a lot over the past week and are now suffering quite badly with coughs and runny noses, probably due to pollen. Take an antihistamine and see if it settles.

Kit19 · 20/05/2020 08:13

I tried to book a test as soon as it opened - impossible! I can’t drive so has to be a home test.

I’ll try an anti histamine

Last week after a workout I was wheezing quite badly for hours afterwards! I usually wheeze very slightly for around half an hour sometimes after a workout, I suffer from allergies so put it down to that, but it was quite bad last week and never had it before like that. However I was fine the next day and after working out since.
I logged it on the COVID symptom study app I’ve been doing and they invited me to be tested, unfortunately the government website doesn’t confirm my identity so I can’t get one done!
I’m not too worried and putting it down to my allergies, but it was very weird.

Thanks Harriet

the virus just makes you feel paranoid. I do get a bit hay fevery after runs and normally would just put it down to that but just feel so jumpy at the moment

what was the problem with booking a test? Given the hype about 'everyone can be tested' would be interesting to know if the system can't cope.

@HarrietOh I did similar (ear problem, very clearly wax but hey ho) and got a test done immediately locally, was impressively fast and efficient

Kit19 · 20/05/2020 12:55

I can’t drive so have to have a test home delivered. Those are “unavailable”

I believe you can get a drive thru test

Is there a 'drive through' test centre within walking distance? The army mobile one near my home takes cars and pedestrians.
