DF in a residential home testing positive

All the residents have been tested and DF has a positive result, I feel sick. He’s late 80s with chest and heart problems so I’m well aware this is terrible.
But, at the moment he’s feeling fine.
Of course no one can reassure me but how likely is it that he won’t get symptoms? I can’t find any reliable data?
Any positive stories, I know I’m clutching at straws.

My mother in law is in her 80s and is in a care home and tested Positive 2 weeks ago. She Is bed bound and very weak But has no symptoms thus far. I think other residents in the home also tested positive but are all fine.

I'm not sure anyone truly knows the figures. It is possible he won't get any symptoms and will be fine. It's possible he'll be mildly ill and be fine. It's possible he'll be very ill and be fine.

I think the latest view is that about 75% of asymptomatic cases go on to develop it. I've seen stats varying from 45 to 85% though.

Being healthy now is important and suggests he has some good immune response going on. I hope he stays well.

I've found out tonight that the first resident had symptoms on Thursday, so 6 days without any is good isn't it?

I don't think anyone can give you the reassurance you want, but no symptoms has to be better than being ill. I hope he's ok x

My mum, 94 with dementia, very frail and in a care home tested positive a week ago on Tuesday. Symptoms initially fairly mild and GP advised us that the period to the end of the week would be critical. She’s still only showing mild symptoms and we’re now into day 9. She’s been up and dressed every day, watching tv and the only downside for her is that she’s isolated but can’t understand why. If she’s ok by Tuesday, then she’ll be allowed to mix again.

I know everyone’s story is different, but there are a lot of positive outcomes. There are some really uplifting threads on here with loads of good stories.

IIRC 40% of people in their 80s who get it require hospital treatment, so that means most (60%) don't get it too badly.

I think this stat was from the early days before it was in care homes - so not a question of people remaining in care homes rather than going to hospitals.
