If you tested positive did others in your house catch it?

Just wondering how easy it was transmitted within the home. Have read a few studies which seem to conflict (some concluding it's easily transmitted and others saying not). Thought it interesting to ask here.

I tested positive on Thursday (result came in on Saturday), I would also like to know this as my DH & DCs are currently playing the 14 day waiting game...

wurlycurly · 19/05/2020 22:34

My brother got it but not his wife or kids

Kitcat122 · 19/05/2020 22:38

We weren't tested but my husband became ill first (travels through Heathrow regularly) then my teenage DS, then me. Two younger children no symptoms.

I can't speak for Covid, but I am really susceptible to flu and have had it at least 4 or 5 times in the last decade, always very severely and my family have never caught it from me.

NB not equating Covid to flu, but I believe transmission methods are similar.

Friend firefighter tested positive (no symptoms) his wife and new born didn't get it

NaturalBornWoman · 19/05/2020 23:12

My grandson’s stepfather had it and was hospitalised. ExDIL was mildly unwell and none of the children had any symptoms. My grandson is 15, older brother 19, younger children 7-10ish. All children were moving between households and didn’t pass it on.

KnobChops · 19/05/2020 23:12

I caught it a week after DH came down with symptoms. Not surprising as men are awful spreaders. DD was fine but she had symptoms after the half term ski trip. She didn’t pass it to us despite non stop coughing and initial fever.

Flu is much less transmissible, so not necessarily a good contrast.

I do have two friends who have had it (inc. positive tests) who also live with partners who have not shown any symptoms, even though they did not distance within the house. This doesn't mean they didn't catch it, mind, as we know that people do catch it without displaying any symptoms at all.

LakeFlyPie · 19/05/2020 23:20

I tested positive and isolated in bedroom (used face mask to use bathroom). 4 days into my isolation DS2 (9) got cough and fever, day later DH had overnight temps for a couple of days and DS1 lost his sense of taste for a day or so. I spoke to GP subsequently who thought that if one household member has Covid it's highly likely everyone will get as it's contagious before symptoms (and therefore possibility to self isolate) are evident.

blueshoes · 19/05/2020 23:30

Dh got it first (mild), then me a week later (moderate). Dcs did not display symptoms. Does not mean dcs did not get it. Just that they did not have symptoms.

VicesReturning · 20/05/2020 01:25

Yes they all did ..

BakedCam · 20/05/2020 02:05

My DH tested positive on April 23rd after being admitted to hospital for another matter. He was discharged 48 hrs later home, seven days isolation, I was advised to do 14. Followed all the guidelines, DH has a few other conditions. I remain with no symptoms, fit and well. My children are adults and live away from home.

Londonmummy00 · 20/05/2020 05:52

I was very sick in March as were my 2 children. DH no symptoms. I just tested positive for antibodies, and he tested Negative! Blood test results stated not sign of previous infection’!! I would like to test for children for antibodies next.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/05/2020 06:22

My mum had it confirmed (NHS worker) but my stepdad living in the same house didn't get it. Or he did and he was asymptomatic.

Underhisi · 20/05/2020 06:40

My sisters ( nurses) have tested positive for it. One partner had no symptoms and wasn't tested. The other partner tested positive and had symptoms.

Elouera · 20/05/2020 06:44

My friend tested +ve but her DH didn't. He is a nurse, and she was at home not going out. He likely had it a week earlier, but by the time they got tested, he was no longer infected. His symptoms were so mild, he thought it was his usual hayfever so continued going to work! No cough or fever. Their kids were ill too, but with odd things. 1 got diarrhoea for a day, 1 was tired for 2 days and the other had a sniffle.

Only way they'll know now is an antibody test.

HollysBush · 20/05/2020 06:47

I tested positive and was quite unwell (not hospitalised). Husband had it more mildly (shared bed) but two early 20s year old children had no symptoms.
