It seems everyone is ignoring this new information about a possible link to COVID and the above? And its effect on children, Or have I missed something?

No ones ignoring it but it’s really very rare.

Sandybval · 19/05/2020 11:41

How do you conclude everyone is ignoring it when there have been numerous threads about it? It's something which can rarely happen to children after any virus, what would you like to discuss?

DesmondTheMoonbear · 19/05/2020 11:41

Ignoring it? There's been about a dozen threads on MN on the subject.

anothernamechangeagain · 19/05/2020 11:41

There has been several threads on it here and quite a few news articles. I don't think anyone is ignoring it. It's incredibly rare though.

Buzzfrightyears · 19/05/2020 11:44

There are only 230 cases in the whole of Europe, that’s less than 3 cases for every million children, so it is very rare indeed.

Quote taken from the U.K. Kawasaki disease foundation. Full link is here www.societi.org.uk/kawasaki-disease-and-covid-19/

I work in paediatric oncology. There are around 5 new cases of paediatric cancer EVERY DAY in the U.K. but, for the most part, we don’t worry constantly about this.

The media is sensationalising everything. Why would the U.K. government shoot themselves in the foot and kill our 5 year olds? It makes no sense - there would be a revolt!

rabbitheadlights · 19/05/2020 11:45

I did say .. it SEEMS to me and also Have I missed something? So obviously I have. I will have a look for the other threads.

Thankyou

Thankyou for the link @Buzzfrightyears

Goodness OP, it’s gotten SO much attention on here, despite its rarity. Where have you been?

Booboodisney · 19/05/2020 11:49

@buzzfrightyears nail on head. Kids get diagnosed with cancer at a Frightening rate but we don’t talk about it because it’s scary

Stats in the USA are something like a whole primary school class of kids are diagnosed every day with cancer

BalloonSlayer · 19/05/2020 12:23

One of the problems with Kawasaki disease is that, because it's so rare, it's difficult to diagnose as most Doctors will never see a case.

The current raising of awareness of it will help matters. There is treatment for it.

rabbitheadlights · 19/05/2020 12:44

Thanks for all the info everyone, I generally come on MN for a few minutes at a time so often miss things

It’s fine to ask when you aren’t sure! However I do think the media and their portrayals of covid19 has been absolutely shocking. I really think there needs to be an enquiry into it - I’m looking at you, Daily Fail, for scaring everyone senseless!!

Ohtherewearethen · 20/05/2020 16:24

Why have you posted this is AIBU instead of the corona topic?

woodpidgeons · 20/05/2020 17:16

I'm surprised about the lack of discussion about the new syndrome in Children on this site. Yes there have been threads, but hardly any compared to the threads discussing and speculating about various aspects of lockdown.

Barbie222 · 20/05/2020 17:37

At least one thread was deleted. I'm not sure there are enough details yet to have much of a discussion without people moaning about scaremongering here. It's something that concerns me, as the very same remarks were made about covid in the early stages.
