When do you reckon swimming pools will reopen?

I had a survey from my leisure centre today. They were asking what users thought about various ideas. Changing by poolside was one, wider lanes, swim by appointment only, limited numbers. Or pay extra to get a lane to yourself. I already pay membership, so no. It's the same water as the other lanes, so I can't see that being a covid solution, but some people might like to do it just because! It's the changing that's an issue, I lane swim and don't really interact with other swimmers in the pool except for politely allowing / being allowed to swim through.

@CallmeAngelina Confused yes, we use chlorine to clean surfaces. It is called bleach.

Love51 · 19/05/2020 17:16

Our open water isn't open at the moment. I'd be a bit worried I won't make in round, now that I've now not swam in months. That seems insane, I've been at 3 X weekly for years!

shookbelves · 19/05/2020 17:18

They might think about opening outdoor pools first, but you would still have the issue with changing rooms and toilets.

ListeningQuietly · 19/05/2020 17:21

I cannot wait for the outdoor pool to open.
My suntan needs topping up.
As do my muscles swum 4 miles a week for the last 18 years

Every other exercise can be done with the gym closed
but not swimming

I suspect it's going to be ages which is pants. I swim every day before work so really missing it. Swimming and my cleaner are the two things I miss most at the moment #firstworldproblems. Although if I was really rich I guess I'd have a lap pool in the garden.

Swim and go home with a towel round them

I'm just imagining doing that on the bus or a bike Grin

I think it’ll be a while before any open. DD2 normally goes to swim club 5 days a week. She is now majorly irritating as she has too much energy .

Her coach has started weekly zoom meetings. It’s quite good, they go over nutrition and the ASA rules. A few of the other kids wear hats and goggles for it.Grin

CMOTDibbler · 19/05/2020 18:45

My open water venue have just said they should be opening first week of June Grin. Can't wait!

CallmeAngelina · 19/05/2020 18:49

There is no way in hell I would be sharing a bath with the local population at the moment or any other time, actually.

ListeningQuietly · 19/05/2020 21:37

Do you swim in the sea?
Do you know what fish do in the sea Wink Grin

Disquieted1 · 19/05/2020 21:45

I don't understand the logic of 'chlorine makes it safe'. If the virus lived in water then surely it would be in all our rivers, reservoirs and homes by now.

CallmeAngelina · 19/05/2020 22:25

Do you know what fish do in the sea

No! Is it similar to what spiders do to washing left out on the line overnight? Shock

lljkk · 19/05/2020 22:48

The levels of chlorine in tap water (that you drink & bathe in at home) are enough to kill the virus.

Disquieted1 · 19/05/2020 22:58

There's no chlorine in rain. People are OK to go fishing according to the government. Water from rivers and lakes becomes aerosol (or whatever the word is) and is in the atmosphere providing humidity.
I'm not convinced that chlorine is necessary to make water safe. But I may be wrong.
