I know a few people have ordered and taken the antibody tests now but I've not heard of a single positive result. Anyone?!

@terrapinstation GrinGrin I wouldn’t want to start any rumours! But yes does suggest people are maybe not susceptible. We are learning more and more.

mummykauli7 · 31/05/2020 12:11

@pammie Aspire Pharmacy 23 High Street, Sidcup. Yes anyone can get one, it's a finger prick test and the blood sample is tested. £50 and you can walk in and get it done.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 31/05/2020 12:30

I want an antibody test but worried about a false negative. Didnt abbot say their tests were designed to be proper blood tests, not finger prick at home ones? Otherwise I'd order one!

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 31/05/2020 12:31

Wow. Googled to find the article and found this. They've pulled most the finger prick ones for that reason.

The ones used in the pharmacy are manufactured by Biopanda (if anyone wants to research first) they're not at home tests. They are only approved for testing carried out by a health care professional. The results are pretty accurate, the accuracy is higher if you wait 20+ days after having symptoms. Results in 10 minutes.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 31/05/2020 13:19

I had a suspicion pharmacy ones would be different but there were lots of threads about people ordering them online and in superdrug which is what I had considered.

I dont live near your pharmacy, or london, is there a way to find out if there's somewhere near me I can get reliably tested?

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 31/05/2020 13:20

I had symptoms mid march

mummykauli7 · 31/05/2020 13:25

@pineapple I'm not sure. Maybe try calling your local gp surgerys and pharmacies and see if they have any plans on making testing available.

AfterSchoolWorry · 31/05/2020 13:27

I've volunteered for an antibody test study, hopefully save €€€€ Grin

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 31/05/2020 13:46

Thanks so much!

On Kate Garraway - she met Prince Charles at some event just before lockdown. Prince Charles got ill with Covid shortly after. She may have passed it to her husband.

Are you suggesting she had closer contact with Prince Charles than Camilla does grin

They're another example of partners with different reactions.*

Camilla was at Cheltenham on the 13th of March she might have had it and recovered by the time Charles tested positive. Mean incubation is 5 days Charles tested positive on 23rd ?

hopefulhalf · 31/05/2020 14:01

Sorry 11th so 5 days incubation symptomatic 16th-21st ?

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 31/05/2020 14:04

So is it possible to get an accurate test without using venous blood? I thought the Abbot Labs one was designed to use finger prick blood?

Is the only way to get an antibody test face to face with someone drawing blood?

I was going to order one this week as I think I've had covid and I'm due back in work soon. Don't want to waste my money pointlessly though.

zen1 · 31/05/2020 14:10

@mummykauli7 can you literally just walk in or do you have to make an appointment? Is your pharmacy busy? Thank you

mummykauli7 · 31/05/2020 14:15

@zen1 yes you can walk in, there may be a little wait depending on how many people are waiting to be tested. We open at 8.30, I would come earlier for less of a wait. We get busier as the day goes on.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 31/05/2020 14:17

Im not medical The Original but I read Abbott was complainjng to people marketting their test as finger prick as it hadnt designed to be. My article above shows they've been withdrawn (the home delivery/superdrug style ones).

almost contemplating doing a Cummings and driving to sidcup but its a bit far!

zen1 · 31/05/2020 14:18

That’s really helpful, thank you @mummykauli7 (am in a neighbouring borough)

mummykauli7 · 31/05/2020 14:49

I think the main difference is that the Abbott test is designed to detect IgG whereas the Biopanda test we offer tests for both IgG and IgM aswel. Which is why the accuracy of results is much higher than the at home tests.

For context, IgM is one of the first things the body will produce in the presence of a foreign body in the body. Therefore even people who had milder symptoms will still show a positive result.

Mine was positive. Got it done in a clinic, they took blood from a vein.

SnowsInWater · 01/06/2020 12:34

Sorry for my ignorance but can you not get a test from your doctor or a clinic if you have symptoms? Surely by now there must be enough tests to go round. I live in Sydney and if you have even the mildest symptoms you are encouraged to get tested; most areas have a covid testing clinic, many attached to hospitals, some not. There are a few "drive through" clinics including the one at Bondi beach which is great as you can get tested and don't have to worry about being beside other people. I only know people who got negative results, they got a text within 24 hours (it's a bit longer at the weekend).

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 01/06/2020 12:42

Snows - coronavirus tests are easy to get now, but this is the antibody test to see if you have had it. When i think I had it (march) they werent testing everyone so it would be useful for me to know,

SnowsInWater · 01/06/2020 13:04

Oh that is interesting @PineappleUpsideDownCake, especially as so many people are supposed to be asymptomatic.

zen1 · 02/06/2020 18:03

That’s brilliant @mummykauli7 .How long would the discount be valid for?

mummykauli7 · 02/06/2020 20:18

@zen1 I've not been given an end date, but I will update on here if there are any changes.
