Does anyone know if UK patients are being treated with Hydroxychloroquine?

I’m getting the impression that newer drugs with less data, are favoured. But I’m not sure.

The evidence has always suggested that it's effective when given early - before hospital stage. There's also the potential as prophylactic. Hence the NHS HCP trial - to see if it prevents you catching it in the first place.

Like I've said, even if it is conclusively proved to help, we can't get overexcited. There remains the issue of supply. We'd need to wait for more to be manufactured. And of course it might not end up being the best option. But so far it looks positive. And that's something to be hopeful about.

Let's hope one or several of the other trial drugs proves successful at treating hospitalised patients.

I think it’s been explained pretty clearly why doctors can’t just prescribe any drug they feel like. It would be great if an existing drug was proven to have a good outcome but then comes the problems of manufacture and logistics. Existing drugs are already in use for other conditions so continuity there needs to be assured too.

I’ve seen reports from America where lupus and arthritis patients are unable to get hold of hydroxychloroquine which they’ve been taking for their conditions. That’s scandalous imho.

Personally I think treatments derived from blood products of those recovered with antibodies is the way to go and another good reason to focus on reliable widespread antibody testing.
