Would you visit dad in this situation?

Thinking of driving to another town c. 1.5 hours away to meet up with DF (mid 70s, pretty healthy), outside in a park and distanced obviously. The thing is I'd have to take DC3 who is 5 months and EBF. Do you think this violates the "meeting one on one only" rule? I'd keep DC3 in the sling the whole time.

Of course it's fine. The police aren't going to arrest you for bringing your baby out.

FraterculaArctica · 18/05/2020 21:42

I'm not worried about the police.or that there's any additional risk. It's more that I'm an absolute stickler for the rules, because I don't see how you can expect other people to respect them if you don't yourself. I just feel really guilty that I'm now tempted to break them, after all everyone thinks their.circumstances are special.

Yes, I would. If you and friend can together for a socially distant meet up, why not family? You are both aware of the risks and will take the necessary precautions and, of course, baby has to go with you. Take the stroller and take DC for a lovely, long walk in the sun. Take a thermos of tea/coffee too for you and dad.

lljkk · 18/05/2020 21:54

I'm not an absolute stickler for rules so I don't think I can help you, OP.
I hope you find a solution you feel comfortable with.

FraterculaArctica · 18/05/2020 22:09

Lifeisabeach09 obviously it's fine for me to meet up with DF by myself, it's just that I have to take DC3 with me and therefore have two people from our household, when the rules say only one.

Lifeisabeach09 · 18/05/2020 22:12

And if you were a single parent??

Ragwort · 18/05/2020 22:14

Of course it’s fine, just use your common sense.

But if it really causes you so much worry then don’t do it.

EachDubh · 18/05/2020 22:15

I think a dependent baby could count as part of you for this. Please don't over think it and miss out seeing your dad.

LilacTree1 · 18/05/2020 22:17

I think even the police would be low to count a baby as a third.

IncrediblySadToo · 18/05/2020 22:20

I'm very much for Lockdown & people obeying the 'rules'. Hard Paddington stares for all the people who don't think the rules apply to them etc.

I think it's ridiculous that people are being tild they can drive wherever they want to within England and meet 1 other in parks but those are the current 'guidelines' so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have no issue with you taking your baby, you can't leave your baby at home or the other end of the park, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

However, I'd probably go on a day when the whole family could go and he could see the older ones (at a distance) too (If he/they'd want to)

Most public toilets aren't open though - would your bladder cope?

LilacTree1 · 18/05/2020 22:23

Incredibly do you mean you think we shouldn’t be allowed to meet anyone in a park?

LilacTree1 · 18/05/2020 22:24

Re loos

If you’re driving, you have the advantage of being able to discreetly use a she wee type thing in the car.

AppleKatie · 18/05/2020 22:26

I would do this. The reason it’s only one person is surely to keep numbers down in public spaces and make people less likely to inadvertently break the rules.

Your 5month old in a sling is not at risk here.

But yes lack of loos would be a worry to me.

FraterculaArctica · 18/05/2020 23:35

Hmm, I've just seen on another thread that this came up on the radio (newborn baby plus mum) and the answer was definitely no this isn't allowed. I'll be staying at home then.

LilacTree1 · 19/05/2020 00:14

Oh no

This is ridiculous

Don’t let MN put you off

Would police really break up a gathering of you, baby, and dad?
.

Ragwort · 19/05/2020 06:52

Don’t be such a sheep. Of course you can visit your Dad, in the park,, with your baby. I really can’t believe you are not able to make a sensible decision yourself.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/05/2020 06:59

I've visited my mum in the park with my 6yo. I'm a single parent and I haven't spent time with another adult since before lockdown. Incredibly unfair that we are being penalised yet again. So I'm doing it.

LilacTree1 · 19/05/2020 10:45

Rag, that’s harsh - no one wants £100 fine.

OP you know, according to the Sunday Times, Boris Johnson has been joking about how easy it is to put people into lockdown and how hard it is to get them out of it?

I too live in fear of the £100 fine. But in your case, I think it could easily be challenged.

I also think at this point the police are looking for groups but I realise it only takes one jobsworth.

lljkk · 19/05/2020 19:27

I had police at my door (exercise violation) 5 weeks ago.

They seem to have a policy to not fine first offenders.

Powerof4 · 19/05/2020 19:58

i wonder if you could challenge any fine on the grounds this discriminates against bf mothers?

Reader1984 · 19/05/2020 20:06

It's fine to go! Enjoy seeing your dad.

AppleKatie · 19/05/2020 20:08

You wouldn’t get a fine.

The police are not randomly stopping two adults and a baby walking along- that looks like a normal household and wouldn’t arouse suspicion surely?

And even if they did stop and question you are they checking ID and following up the living situation of everyone they stop who engages politely with them?

DianaT1969 · 19/05/2020 20:31

Haven't read the whole thread. If you really wouldn't put your baby in the sling because of rules, could you stay by the car with your father and baby stays in car? Obviously getting a break from the car seat on arrival and departure. Such a shame not to see your dad.

FraterculaArctica · 19/05/2020 21:06

Really not worried about a fine! As lockdown is being so widely broken, I'm sure the police have their hands full with much more major breaches - parties etc. For me it's the moral question - how can you expect anyone else to stick to the rules if you don't yourself.

audweb · 19/05/2020 21:08

What do you think single parents are doing with their children? I’m in Scotland so not at that stage yet but where I go my child has to. No one is gong to argue with you taking a baby with you.
