Concerned about plans to test children over 5

Mitsouko67 · 18/05/2020 17:29

I'm worried about this especially as I have heard the test is really unpleasant and sore. Up to this our kids haven't really ,in most instances, had to face this head on.

Well I’m assuming the test isn’t compulsory?

AnyFucker · 18/05/2020 17:33

Only symptomatic children. Don't you want to find out what might be wrong with your child (if God forbid they became ill)

It's a simple swab. Uncomfortable for just a couple of seconds.

frasersmummy · 18/05/2020 17:34

Oh ffs... The govt just can't do right can't they.

AnyFucker · 18/05/2020 17:34

Quite ridiculous

Laniakea · 18/05/2020 17:35

It’s just a swab - not sore or particularly unpleasant.

Lifeisabeach09 · 18/05/2020 17:35

It won't be compulsory and, no, the test (if it's the swab) isn't sore. Mild discomfort, generally.

VicesReturning · 18/05/2020 17:35

I've had the test. As we all had same symptoms and I tested positive I can assume DC have had it ...

Based on my experience of swab up nose and in back of throat there is not a hope in hell DS age 6 would let them anywhere near him! He won't even let the doc put that lolly stick thing in his mouth!!

Redolent · 18/05/2020 17:36

Serious first world problems.

Barbie222 · 18/05/2020 17:36

I would think this is so that they can manage outbreaks in YR and Y1children once back at school. Those who are over 5 anyway. I don't think it's a bad thing nor is it compulsory but if your child had symptoms and were attending school obviously the choice would be go for a test or isolate for 7 /14 days.

yikesanotherbooboo · 18/05/2020 17:37

What exactly are you worried about? A brief few moments of discomfort? The inconvenience of organising the test? I would have thought that most people would want to know otherwise the whole family group is stuck at home ; not shopping, not exercising, not getting out to work or school for two weeks as is the case now.

VicesReturning · 18/05/2020 17:38

For what it's worth OP, I understand your worry! I think people are being a mean suggesting you r because ng ridiculous! While.some 5 and 6 year olds might tolerate a stick up their nose just fine, a lot will not. My older DC would have been ok at that age, but DC currently age 6 would hate it and no way would he let them do it!!

Doyoumind · 18/05/2020 17:39

Omg. Children have vaccines up their nose and injected into their arms and they cope 🙄 Some children have to undergo surgery and all kinds of medical treatment. What a ridiculous thing to complain about.

Underhisi · 18/05/2020 17:40

My son couldn't be tested without being sedated so I would guess wouldn't be tested outside of a hospital setting.

avroroad · 18/05/2020 17:41

I'm worried about this especially as I have heard the test is really unpleasant and sore.

Surely if your kids are symptomatic you would be more worried about that than the test though?

Up to this our kids haven't really ,in most instances, had to face this head on.

Facing it head on would be having the virus, not having a test.

TerrapinStation · 18/05/2020 17:42

Are you literally looking for something to be annoyed about. How can anyone seriously find something negative about an extension to testing?

Are you a negative moaner in real life or are you just hard of thinking and for reason heard that children can get tests and took that to mean they would be held down and have swabs pushed up their noses.

Dont be so silly.

Mitsouko67 · 18/05/2020 17:46

Thanks, understand of course the need for and importance of testing.

My friend had the test and told me it was horrible. She's a health care worker.

Willing to get the test for self and family as necessary but based on what I've heard and read I must admit I've been dreading it a little. Glad to hear it's not so bad.

Awww OP, everyone is really coming down on you. I'd leave the thread before it gets more nasty. Some people just love to have a go ...

(Like I said, I think your worries are perfectly fine. We all have worries about different things, but some like to think others are not entitled to have concerns that are different from their own.)

Mitsouko67 · 18/05/2020 17:50

Thanks Vices and stepping away now...

OneMomentInHistory · 18/05/2020 17:51

Fine to worry they wouldn't like it, but would you prefer the government to say children aren't eligible because it could be uncomfortable? It's not compulsory and it's only if they're symptomatic.

TerrapinStation · 18/05/2020 17:57

We all have worries about different things, but some like to think others are not entitled to have concerns that are different from their own

That's not what posters are doing here, what valid reason could anyone have to be worried about the increased opportunity for more people to get corona tests if they want them?

If the OP had asked if her child could be forced to have a test she'd have got different replies.

KitchenConfidential · 18/05/2020 18:00

Oh all the things to be worried about....

DominaShantotto · 18/05/2020 18:06

Oh spare me. It's the AVAILABILITY of a test to people showing symptoms being extended... it's NOT lining up all kids and shoving shit down their throats.

Derbygerbil · 18/05/2020 18:10

The Government hasn’t said everyone over 5 has to have the test, just that it’s now available... And having a test isn’t “confronting” Covid head on. Snowflakes comes to mind.

Jrobhatch29 · 18/05/2020 18:14

I was tested in hospital when i had my baby. I was dreading it but it really wasnt bad at all.

imsooverthisdrama · 18/05/2020 18:14

Jesus honestly people will complain about ANYTHING on here .
If your dc has symptoms or anyone in your household it's a good thing that you take the test isn't it .
I don't know if the test is unpleasant or not but covid is most definitely unpleasant.
If you really don't want your child to take the test then fine but maybe worry if and when they get symptoms.
If I got symptoms I'd be relieved to be able to take a test but I think I've had it anyway .
