Gone are the Instagram tagging games, gone are the photos of people just finishing a 5k, gone are the messages of play ideas from panicked mums, and, thank god, gone are the screenshots of zoom calls.

Yes I agree, I think people are just quietly getting on with it now.

HandfulOfFlowers · 18/05/2020 11:23

People are gradually falling into a pit of lethargy and depression.

Spinakker · 18/05/2020 11:28

Agree. It seemed a bit exciting and unknown to begin with. Now it's kind of suffocating ! I know there are some good sides but I just want things back to normal.

zafferana · 18/05/2020 11:32

I agree @HandfulOfFlowers - every one is sick of it that I know. I'm longing to be able to go and wander round the shops, meet a friend for coffee and a walk, just do something normal. I'm sick of home schooling, sick of not being able to go anywhere, sick of fucking Zoom, sick of the same four walls. I love my home and family and I'm delighted that we're safe and well, but after two months of doing nothing but sleep, eat, cook, clean, run, walk, cycle and spend hours in front of a computer facilitating school work and social interaction I'm 100% over it and ready to go back to normal life!

Jumbojem · 18/05/2020 11:36

I wonder if Joe Wickes regretted saying he was the nation's pe teacher and having to go live and think up a new workout every morning! Mind you, he's got a lot of publicity out of it. I'm having to try harder to come up with local walk routes and the novelty of home learning has most definitely rubbed off for the kids.

fiveforty · 18/05/2020 11:39

I would be kicking myself if I was joe wickes. There's a workout idea for him

I've noticed our class FB pages have gone from 6/7 families regularly posting completed work and projects to 1 sometimes 2. I can see everybody is still looking at the pages as it's how our school is setting work. Not sure if people are still doing the same amount but not posting or not posting because they aren't doing the work.

cyclingmad · 18/05/2020 11:44

At the start I felt like I was determined to continue on with things as much as possible like exercise indoors etc.

Now I'm out bored of lack of seeing people other than strangers and neighbours. Sick of all the screen time because of work, then TV then video calls with friends and family. I'm actually have no screen days now.

I'm just thankful we can go out as much as we like, thank god finally! No longer having to wonder if my neighbours gonna grass me up.

My house was my safe haven a positive place that I would come to after work now I'm working from home any stress from work is now in my home environment and there is no separation.

UpToonGirl · 18/05/2020 11:44

If I were JW I would just pre-record a few sessions and have a lie in!

ivykaty44 · 18/05/2020 11:46

I didn't 't feel that lockdown was a novelty - but then I also have other stuff going on in my life.
I do feel that people tried to make the best of a bad situation, home exercise etc and that has now wained, but often that is the case when things go on for more than a few days or weeks

priya38 · 18/05/2020 11:51

The lockdowns been bad enough post lock down could be worse. My thoughts exactly!

I feel lockdown has lost its novelty.
TheAlphaandtheOmega · 18/05/2020 11:54

There is just nothing to look forward to now like holidays and outings, even if you have holiday booked you can't really look forward to it as it may not happen. The most exciting thing I have done is booked a National Trust carpark slot for a walk.

cyclingmad · 18/05/2020 11:55

@priya38 that image sums it up, fun has been sucked out of stuff.

I cycle for fun usually but jow bicycle just because it's a way of getting in exercise, it's taken that fun out of it, I'm just bot as motivated to go cycling as I was before. Confused so hard to try and get that mindset back

MarcelineMissouri · 18/05/2020 11:58

Yes. I’m struggling every morning to get up and put a positive face on for the dc.
I think to begin with there was more of a feeling that we’d have a bit of a lockdown, cv would gradually disappear and our lives would move on. Obviously that is clearly not the case and goodness knows when this nightmare will be over. Dh company could well go under and the longer we spend in lockdown the more likely this becomes. They initially thought they might be asked to close for 4-8 weeks, now it’s clear it will be significantly longer, maybe 6 months plus.
I remember thinking when the schools closed that they would probably open again a couple of weeks after the Easter holidays... I just don’t think a lot of people realised quite how long this would have to go on for.

Malone98 · 18/05/2020 12:19

My town seems to have abandoned the idea of lockdown entirely! Each day when I walk to and from work (technically classed as a key worker, but not NHS/care staff) I have to walk in the road through town to avoid the masses of people who have decided to gather. I understand that people are allowed as much exercise as they desire, but I see groups of 4+ people, whom I very much doubt live in the same household. People stand in inconsiderate places, making it impossible to pass with a 2m distance. Infuriating! I get that lockdown is getting lonely and boring, but as soon as everyone is back to work, they will be moaning about that too. I would like a bit more awareness for those of us still have to go to work! xx

IDSNeighbour · 18/05/2020 12:28

Was it ever a novelty? Miserable and soul destroying from start to now as far as I'm concerned.

cologne4711 · 18/05/2020 12:52

The most exciting thing I have done is booked a National Trust carpark slot for a walk

None of the National Trust places I am interested in appear to be opening at the moment :( I want to meet my mum at one. Hope they prioritise members.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 18/05/2020 13:05

cologne4711 We are going to Houghton Mill, it was a choice of that or Wicken Fen in our area, they are really just car parks though with walks around the area, none of the places with gardens or parkland were open where we usually like to go

TheThingWithFeathers · 18/05/2020 13:09

I was thinking earlier on that it feels completely normal to me now.

TheAlphaandtheOmega · 18/05/2020 13:10

Apparently for some reason NT can’t prioritise members, I think I saw that on FAQ or something on NT website. The car park booking asked if we was a member as non members had to pay £3, members were free and you had to give your membership no. when booking but there was no priority.

devildeepbluesea · 18/05/2020 13:13

There are lots of positives I will take from this experience:

  • I will continue to walk in the beautiful countryside which I am surrounded by.
  • I will continue to mostly work from home (and 100% for, I expect, a good year or so).
  • I will continue with the regular, varied and challenging exercise routines I do every day.
  • I will continue to try and cook something interesting every day.

But, despite all that, I am at the end of my rope and am absolutely desperate to see other people, to have a coffee and a mooch round the shops, to go to the pub with friends, to take DD swimming.....the list is endless. I am perilously close to saying sod it all and going to see friends.

The80sweregreat · 18/05/2020 13:24

I was so fed up at first that I couldn't go on holiday, but I felt bad that I felt this way when people were dying and nobody else can go on holiday either. It really was a first world problem and we did get a refund.
I'm fed up with the queuing and everything taking twice as long to buy and my hair looking a mess / grey!
It lost its 'novelty 'factor for me weeks ago!

Things will improve though I'm sure and I will never forget those that have lost loved ones.
Plus my town have given up on it now a bit so I guess there will be another wave in a few weeks time.
Joe Wicks deserves a medal for keeping going, but I agree he could film a few and have a rest up in the morning!
Best tv has been Matt Lucas on Sunday night who had me laughing with his humorous take on it.

AGoodYearfortheRoses · 18/05/2020 13:29

There was a bit of a sense of community at the beginning and a ‘we’re all in this together’ mentality with everyone sharing stuff online and making the best of it. Now the reality has set in - we’ve got the worst of both worlds in that we have to try and return to some kind of normal life but without any of the things that make life pleasurable. I’m thoroughly depressed and finding it hard to stay positive even while I can see the sense in how we have to live.

saylor · 18/05/2020 14:12

I knew I'd struggle as soon as lockdown was announced 8 weeks ago. I live in a flat with 2 preschool age DC and a DH who is WFH. It's been a nightmare. Even at the start I was sour about it.

cyclingmad · 18/05/2020 16:41

This is so bad now, working from home only time to get to post office is during lunch hours cos post office only open 9 to 3pm. Took over an hour to get in, had to also go to the banks another 30 minutes and stopped off at supermarket since I'm out and took over 1hr

Almost 3hrs just to do 3 simple things. Fml patience wore thin very quickly. Businesses are going to need to adapt why isnt there self serve post office tills anymore all the guy did was scan my return label and hand me a receipt! Could have done that myself if they had them and would have cut the queue time down.

Bit everyone has endless time to be in queues nor can they go at other times.
