What will be different in September (school environment)?

this is a question about a Reception age child in school.

This is NOT a teacher baahing post and I do not want it to turn it into one. I admire and respect my kids teachers and all the staff at their school who go above and beyond. If that does happen I will ask to delete and if I am not online at the time please can people report and #MNHQ please delete.

My DS can return to school possibly from 1st June.

We now have some details from the school about how this will happen. Obviously like every other school it will be a different experience to what he's used to.

I am happy with the approach the school is taking and I do think my child will be as safe as possible. School is going beyond what the government recommend (in positive ways).

So my main concern is how my child will react to the new environment.

Do you think the same guidelines will still be in place in Sept? (Although even I can't see how that works with everyone.)

It's fair to say I'm conflicted. I could keep child home until September and he would not suffer educationally. He has an older sibling so he is not alone.

But if the school environment is the same in September, I wonder if sending him in June will be better for him? Give him the chance to get used to it before there are lots more children back.

As said above, I don't want this to about the rights/ wrongs of schools reopening. I am just trying to understand if we think the school environment will be significantly different in Setpember to now?

If schools would reopen in Sept as normal (how they were in March) then I would not hesitate and keep him off.

By September if infection rates are low and track and trace is in place there should be no need for social distancing within schools. Children are not superspreaders of this and there are no major outbreaks anywhere, in any country related to either children or schools.

The cost of our children of not being at school both socially and educationally is absolutely massive. Other countries have reopened schools and so far it has been fine. Danish schools have reopened and infection rates continue to fall. Even in Sweden, where schools for children up to 16 have been open throughout there are no mass outbreaks related to schools. The majority of their deaths are in care homes, where the population is uniquely vulnerable and like here they failed to protect properly.

We are happy with the approach the school is taking. Don't know how they would manage it long term.

They have said they will only open on 1st June if its safe. I hope they make their own decision and not govts.

I do think potentially it will be delayed a week or so which I would be happy with.

If we had any vulnerable household members we would probably wait. And our school will not force anyone to work which I am relieved about.

Should say work in a school environment. They have of course been working the whole time.

My school is doing 2 groups, one goes in on a Monday and Tuesday.
Wednesday they will be deep cleaning, and then Thursday and Friday the next group.
We will all be giving a time slot for drop of and pick up.
I'm happy for my yr 6 children to go in, she understnads and I really think it will do her good.
My yr r child im more worried about as he does need more watching and comfort (he is under paediatrician for possible asd).
So I'm going to speak to his teacher and together hopefully we can decide what is best for him.
I have a teenager in a sen school and because they are in a temporary building while there new school is being built its quite small.
They are proposing one day a week, and hopefully they will be in the new building in September.

Our school has said breakfast club won't be going ahead due to mixing of year groups. Same with any after school clubs that would normally have mixed years.

Our breakfast club is going to open in a few weeks after the 1st !
Not sure how it will go.
