Anyone else gathering a whole heap of charity shop stuff

When we have no idea whether charity shops will re-open and the knowledge that if they do they'll all be inundated as half the UK is decluttering in lockdown?

I've done the toy area, ds' room and the kitchen. Still our bedroom and the utility to do. I have 8 bags of charity shop stuff and piles of tip stuff already Blush

MidsomerMum they cant collect, my husbands charity has bins which are closed, that's because the depot the donations go to is also closed as its not an essential service, the drivers and the staff who sort through the donations are not charity workers and are furloughed so not allowed to work

As a charity shop volunteer this worries me. We have no news on when we'll reopen and as we're in Scotland it could be months away given Nicola Sturgeon's position on keeping everything closed. A high proportion of our volunteers are over 70 or have health problems so may not wish to come back anyway.

We are going to be DELUGED with stuff and we are going to struggle to cope with it all at once, with limited space and fewer volunteers.

Please don't be grumpy with volunteers if they turn you away or ask you to wait a few weeks.

@@SockYarn I'm definitely not grumpy at volunteers. You do an amazing job Daffodil

I know you weren't, Bride. But I can just imagine the threads come August about how some "dragon" in a charity shop wouldn't take 29 bags of stuff that someone had been accumulating since March.

Five black sacks and a large box. The tip's reopening this week so I'll give it a few days for the rush to die down and then get rid of it. We've only got a one bedroom flat and I haven't got room to have it sitting around for weeks, if not months.

DH has just had a zoom meeting about plans to open his charity shops, bottom line is they wont be opening on June 1st (if that's the date shops will be allowed to open) there will be a phased opening nationwide, there will be a very specific and strong opening module for each shop, unless that shop meets every criteria that shop will not open until it does - his charity is a large 'high street' charity smaller charities may open their shops immediately but I suspect all the big names will have something like that in place, it maybe months before some shops can open again

People locally have been leaving boxes of books and toys and asking people to help themselves. Could you do that with some of your stuff?
