Does anyone else find the 'continuous cough' definition a bit confusing?

Apparently, you have to self-isolate if you have a continuous cough, which is defined as either:

  • coughing for more than an hour
  • coughing more than three times in 24 hours

But is that literally just 3 individual coughs? Or 3 coughing fits that last a few minutes?

I woke myself up coughing this morning. I only coughed for at most a minute. Then I coughed again for about a minute an hour later. Nothing else but a bit of a tickle in my throat. I thought it felt a bit like a burning feeling but I might have been imagining it. No fever.

I'm obviously going to keep an eye on it but do I really have to self-isolate if I cough once more before tomorrow morning, when I'm only coughing for up to a minute at a time? We haven't been out today, no plans to but I really hate being cooped up, we had to do it for ages a few weeks back when my DD had a mild fever but no other symptoms.

Well hopefully the coughing 3 times in 24 hours means a coughing fit or I’ve broken the rules a fair few times!

My heyfever makes me really snotty & in turn I get nasal drip & often need to clear my throat.. I cough more than 3 times a day most days but it is in no way what I would deem persistent. Just an odd cough to clear my throat! Persistent to me would mean you literally can’t stop coughing for a short while?

That's what I hope! I haven't coughed since 10.30am now so I think I'm safe....

I think you can work out for yourself if you have a cough or not.
