Why are people not wearing masks?

I’m queuing inside my local supermarket, I’ve see one other person wearing a mask.

Does it not make sense to just TRY to protect other people and try and keep infection rates down. Even a scarf wound round your face?!

I think they should be compulsory when you are inside. Is it the PPE shortage which is preventing Boris from making it so?

Talk to me about masks!

There is no need except in certain situations and surgical styled masks have limited benefit.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 16/05/2020 20:43

I don't want to.

PestymcPestFace · 16/05/2020 20:45

if you think you're asymptomatic, stay home

WTF!

highmarkingsnowmobile · 16/05/2020 20:46

Because I have PTSD and can't currently cope with anything tight over my mouth/nose. I can just about tolerate a light scarf as long as it isn't tight. Masks are an absolute no.

This is also true for some of those with special needs. So glad we don't live in some draconian dictatorship where people are forced by law to do this.

Sweettea1 · 16/05/2020 20:47

Why do you wear one they don't protect you from it? More if you you think you have it wear one as it stops your germs spreading as far with one on but doesn't stop you catching it.

SpringBlossomIsBeautiful · 16/05/2020 20:49

Same misinformation & name calling - I’m a selfish twat

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/05/2020 20:51

They should be reserved for front line staff- the crappier ones do more harm than good, germs stick to them- you shouldn’t even use them more than once.
Pointless!

Idontbelieveit12 · 16/05/2020 20:51

Every single person I have seen wearing a mask has not been wearing it properly or I’ve seen them yank it down as soon as they leave the shop and leave it hanging around their mouth/chin. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Worriedmum999 · 16/05/2020 20:55

It will be made compulsory over time....just waiting for the Government idiots to take their sweet time as usual.

“It’s just flu, I’m not worried”
“I don’t need to buy an extra toilet roll, there won’t be a shortage”
“This country won’t lockdown”
Now it’s “I won’t be wearing a mask” until the government suddenly change their tune then they’ll be the ones moaning about people who aren’t.

People are dicks.

Jellybean27 · 16/05/2020 20:55

Correct @Footywife

Please let it be mandated soon, for all those who need it to be an official order to not be a selfish wanker 🙏🏻

Lifeisabeach09 · 16/05/2020 20:56

This video was pretty good at getting the point across re masks when coughing.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 16/05/2020 20:56

I won’t unless it’s law

To be honest, I don’t want be forced by society to cover my face, I am angry about giving up my freedoms, the freedom to make my own decisions. And face covering is not something to me that fits in with a free country.

This used to be a free country anyway, and I am still mourning the freedoms we had

It takes time to adjust to this new dystopian U.K.

Not there yet

Redolent · 16/05/2020 20:58

@Worriedmum999

Completely agree. This thread and others reminds me of what it was like on MN back in February and early March.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 16/05/2020 20:58

Oh, please, people are not 'selfish wankers' for not wearing a fucking mask! It's not going to become the law here, ridiculous. This isn't N. Korea.

SinglePringle · 16/05/2020 21:00

I am. Worn when out in public. Over my nose and tight at the sides. Bought 2 x box of 20 from The Range.

I put it on before I leave home, the ensure I don’t touch my face and I wash my hands the second I take it off.

amy85 · 16/05/2020 21:01

Because I don't want to I wouldn't feel comfortable in one and living the house makes me anxious enough I don't need anything extra to increase me anxiety or hinder my breathing

PestymcPestFace · 16/05/2020 21:01

Does anyone remember when seatbelts were advisory not compulsary?

highmarkingsnowmobile · 16/05/2020 21:05

Can you imagine, criminals would love this! People who are deaf, hard of hearing, have sensory processing conditions, etc. would be fucked.

bellinisurge · 16/05/2020 21:06

A cloth face covering is not PPE. So the excuse about saving PPE got the NHS is bollocks.
Make one. Don't make one. Wear one . Don't wear one.
Pretty soon shops will insist on it. You don't have a human right to go into private property, which a shop is, to buy something. Pretty soon they'll be worried about being sued. Get used to it.

Jellybean27 · 16/05/2020 21:08

I’m more looking to South Korea @highmarkingsnowmobile. They wore masks. Their results speak for themselves.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 16/05/2020 21:08

Oh, please. Shops won't insist on it, not if it puts off their selling stuff, especially in this economy. Sued for what? You can't prove where you caught the virus as it lives on surfaces so there's no case to answer.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 16/05/2020 21:09

They tested and traced, Jelly. Hmm

PurpleDaisies · 16/05/2020 21:10

@jellybean27 that’s because they have an amazing track, trace and isolate program.

bellinisurge · 16/05/2020 21:11

I didn't say successfully sued. I said sued. Don't you know the difference?
