Really can't decide what to do.live 1.5 hr drive away and just desperate to see her. She is late 70's and not been out of the house since march (not self isolating but has arthritis and bad back which started when lock down did). She has great neighbours who are shopping for her - i just feel as though i need to see her for my own sanity ( and hers). She cant leave the house to exercise so we cant meet up and stay 2m apart. Wwyd?? Interested in what others would do.i have had a negative covid test btw.

Does she have a garden? I would go and see her, and sit in the garden if she does.

If she wants to see you then go. Even better if you can social distance!

I live close to my parents and visit daily. I stand on the pavement for half an hour and they stand in the porch or inside by the window. They need it, we need it. Go and see her.

How will you manage if you need the loo whilst you are there? That’s what’s putting me off visiting my nanna who is 94 that lives 30 minutes away 🙁

Chillipeanuts · 14/05/2020 21:01

Does she want you to? (Sorry if that seems a silly question).

Porcupineinwaiting · 14/05/2020 21:07

You say you've had a negative test, do you have any symptoms? If yes, then I wouldnt go. Otherwise I would but would arrange to sit outside.

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 21:09

I would go

Tbh I don’t think they’ll ever say it’s okay to visit a 70+

But i think it’s safer when you’ve seen fewer people

If they give the go ahead at Christmas them most of us will be back to normal.

Peterbear · 14/05/2020 22:09

No I haven't had any symptoms. Good guestion re does she want me to- yes and no.ahh it's so hard but our mental health is suffering on both sides.

Yes
No ifs or buts

Kayemm · 14/05/2020 22:19

Yes. You are staying 2m apart. It will be good for both of you. Win win.

Kayemm · 14/05/2020 22:25

Sorry, presumed that you can sit in a garden.

My mum is 93, we go twice a week to take shopping and sort washing and are meticulous about cleaning before and after and never being in the same room. At the end of each visit she stands at the door and we have a chat from a distance. This is very needed.

However twice since we closed down she has fallen, pressed her alarm and we have gone and picked her up off the floor which makes the above seem a bit redundant.

For the care of your mum, go and take all precautions you can.

Haven't seen my 77 year old father since mid February... he lives 4.5 hours away and because we don't have a car we rent one and because of the distance, stay for a few days. We were due to stay with him over Easter and that didn't happen, just hoping it'll be ok to go and see him for his birthday in a few months.. again, to spend a few days with him. He thinks it'll be ok as he hasn't heard of many cases where he lives.. hubby has tested negative.. I haven't had a test. I just don't know what to do.
