Update from schools?

Has anyone had an update from their school as to what provision will be offered when they open? Half day? Whole day? Every day? We've heard nothing but know that the nursery are proposing 2 hour sessions!

How would they know. They don't even know when they will potentially be open. 1st June was not a date set in stone.

BumpkinSpiceBatty · 13/05/2020 14:04

They have a huge task trying to work out this logistical nightmare. Even what they propose is probably going to change at the last minute as it's only a proposed date.
I wouldn't expect to hear anything until the end of the week/ beginning of next week.

ineedaholidaynow · 13/05/2020 14:06

I am sure schools are very busy working out the logistics, along with everything else they have to do. Bearing in mind they only found out what Year groups when everyone else did and the initial guidance only came out late on Monday.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 13/05/2020 14:13

Had a letter from the council emailed to say they're considering the govt guidelines but wont open schools until it's safe to do do.

Desperate for mine to return!

londonskyline · 13/05/2020 14:18

We've had a 'we are sorting out the logistics and timetables and we will let you know friday' email. My best friend has had a full timetable plan (3 days school, 2 days home and on which days) for her year 6 at a different school. They must have already been thinking about it to get it out that quick though - I wouldn't have expected that.

UselessTrees · 13/05/2020 14:23

Had an email this morning saying they are working on the plan for reopening, and will give us more details when they can. And asking for us to indicate if we are planning to send our DC on June 1st (assuming they can actually open then) - yes, no or undecided.

Pinkflipflop85 · 13/05/2020 14:30

It is a logistical nightmare and we are working flat out to solve all of the issues that keep arising.

Have some bloody patience.

goldpendant · 13/05/2020 14:30

Thanks for the helpful comments. I didn't mean to imply that our school wasn't doing the necessary planning, just interested in what others might have heard already! As a pp has indicated, I suspect some schools had various plans in motion ready to roll with depending on the guidance.

goldpendant · 13/05/2020 14:33

FFS! Nowhere have I implied that they have been tardy!

Juggling two young kids and two full time jobs is also a "logistical nightmare", so forgive me if I'm keen to understand whether others have had early indications as to what might happen!

We have had a very short message from school, just explaining they are looking into things and to await further information. I feel really sorry for headteacher and teachers trying to sort this mess out.

mindutopia · 13/05/2020 14:38

Ours have sensibly said that they've received no information from the government or LA and that the Sunday announcement about re-opening from 1st of June was a surprise to them. They will be waiting for further information from the LA about what is advisable and will let us know when they know anymore (youngest ones nursery have said similar). School has strongly advised that we not make promises to children about when they can return to school so as not to disappoint them. My school age one is not in one of the years proposed to go back from 1st June anyway, so it's all the same to me.

lazylockdowner · 13/05/2020 14:39

Out of the two school I work at 1 has already sent loads of info out to parents with all plans in place and asking for parents decisions by end of the week, the other has done nothing and not even acknowledge it to staff or patents yet

Judging by info I received from union today I wouldn't hold out any hope that they will actually reopen

actiongirl1978 · 13/05/2020 14:41

We had a letter from the Head yesterday telling us that they are working through the logistics and to reassure that nothing will change with the online learning for now.

I think it is right for Heads to be in touch with a 'holding' communication at this stage.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 13/05/2020 14:44

DSs school have asked if parents are thinking of sending back and if not why (not as accusatory as I've typed but wanting to know reasons to highlight issues) and also stated they know the kids won't distance themselves at all times, this will likely be split classes and possibly split days whether half days or just some days in some out. But they don't know what yet other than not the normal provision.
DDs school sent a letter to all saying they appreciate we all have questions whether Y6 or not but no answers at the moment to anything themselves.

REdReDRE · 13/05/2020 14:46

I have been asked by the school and pre school if we'd be sending them in on the 1st June if they reopen. I responded yes very quickly!

PickUpAPickUpAPenguin · 13/05/2020 14:53

Our secondary have said year 7,8,9 back in September at earliest and they are working on how to do some sessions for 10 and 12 sometime in the summer term which is better news that Boris' hope that they get some face to face time with their teachers.

ifonly4 · 13/05/2020 14:56

Ours is saying, potential reopening.

twinkletoesimnot · 13/05/2020 14:59

Well considering that the neu are advising it's member to not involve themselves with discussions about returning, it must be hard for head teachers to try to plan anyway.

goldpendant · 13/05/2020 15:04

I'm just reading this, about the unions advising members to not engage.

Many schools seem keen to have a deep clean in between different households coming in, so I don’t see how that would be possible with half days. Even whole days seems unlikely. I would think either a week or part week on and then time at home is more likely.

In all honesty, having seen the tubes this morning and photographs of people out at the weekend celebrating the bank holiday, I believe we will have another wave and the return to schools is likely to be far away.

Concerned7777 · 13/05/2020 15:11

Our have just asked if we are intending to send our dc back on the 1st June. The tone of the message from the headteacher wasnt very positive though and had the undercurrent of this is not what I want to happen!
I know a lot of parents said no so we will see what happens over the coming weeks. If not many take up the school place straight away its probably easier for them to put safety measures in place although I'm under no illusion that there wont be any social distancing going on between the younger ones.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/05/2020 15:25

We had an email on Monday basically saying that they need time to work out logistics and will let us know when they can, and to please not to contact them in the next few days with questions about it, which I think is fair.

Mine are Yr2 and Yr4. I don't expect they will be offered much classroom time, if any. They will probably forget what other humans look like by then (we live outside town)

Deelish75 · 13/05/2020 15:32

We've had an email this morning stating they are looking at logistics and will be in touch when there are firm strategies in place. The school is part of an academy trust and I think they are working together as part of a larger group. Just a waiting game.

MrsWhites · 13/05/2020 16:10

We had a text on Monday to say they were waiting on guidelines and would be back in touch once they had received guidelines from local authority.
