Can anyone more clued up than me offer some advice re work/furlough/childcare

DH has been furloughed the past 6 weeks or so. Because of this I have still been able to work (key worker).
We have three DC, two primary aged and one 3.
DH has been told he is restarting work on Monday (construction/manufacturing).
I understand I can apply for the older two to go to a school. It would be a different school to the one they normally attend.
But what happens to smallest DC? Grandparents normally look after her, but wouldn’t be able to now as both in vulnerable group. She was not in any nursery type setting before this.

We are in Wales.

Does anybody have any idea where we stand or point me in the direction of help and advice?

Even though she wasn’t in a nursery, a local nursery set up for key worker children may take her given you are a key worker. Is his job in Wales or England?

where in wales are you based, OP? I think you can contact local nurseries etc as you are a key worker and they will provide childcare, the same as they would if your current nursery was closed.

Contact all nurseries and childminders in your area to see if they have any key worker spaces left.

In England local councils have a list of those who are operating and have spaces so there is probably similar in Wales.

Thanks for all your advice so far.

On further investigation it looks like there is a government funded scheme available for 0-4 year olds, which you have to apply every fortnight for. And the older two every week. It’s a blinking nightmare this isn’t it.

It looks like I can also apply to be furloughed myself. Although it has to be agreed and with the childcare provisions available they will probably urge me to do that instead. I’m just worried as middle DC can struggle with school as it is let alone a completely new environment (the schools on my list don’t include the one they attend).
